This week: an interview with high-caliber Seattle kinkster James Mogul.

Give me a short description of yourself as a kinky person.

If I had to put a sticker on my lapel, it might read "poly-social, mostly breeder, slightly ADD bondage top/sadist."

Tell me about your involvement with the BDSM community.

In 1996, I stumbled into an underground SM dungeon one Saturday night. Intrigued, I kept going back. Although I learned much about playing nicely with others in those first steps, being hit did not make my dick hard, so I started the long trek of a single het male newbie top.

Minding my manners and being respectful to everyone who deserved it yielded the good fortune of hooking up with players more experienced than myself who were willing to take me for a kinky spin. The [Seattle] community is small, and a bit incestuous, but extremely friendly and supportive.

How do you feel when you're playing?

Absolutely focused. It's like opening a door and walking hand in hand with my partner into another state of being. It's like creating our own little universe where absolutely nothing matters but what we are experiencing. I enjoy creating a situation for my partner and lavishing them with all the attention I'm capable of giving.

What's the most annoying thing about the BDSM community?

Infighting, bickering, or posturing, [either] regionally or nationally. BDSM culture needs cohesion and support within the ranks. Organizations like the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom are in place to [act as] watchdog[s] and change legislation, yet they are starving for funding.

About NawaShibari.com:

Almost from the start of coming into public kink circles, [I've had] a drive to document the ride. I accumulated photographs from my rope bondage sessions, and instructional material from my bondage workshops. My desire to share the material led to putting galleries and notes online.

The imagery I create differs from mainstream culture's perception of beauty. But the models are always portrayed as nothing less than the alluring creatures they are. I have nothing but the utmost respect and awe for their abilities.
