“Quiet quitting,” The Stranger edition. One AM slog, and then some candidate campaign announcements and maybe an artist/restaurant or City Hall feature here or there. It’s really eased up on content lately. What’s up?

I can't think of more backhanded way to support an artist than to NOT use their name in the headline and instead substitute the name of a dickhead competitor. FFS.

I've watched a lot of Dave Chapelle on YouTube and Twitter. I've seen his self-deprecating jokes about him and the trans community. I've seen his humor about the trans community and it is hardly insulting.

Who knows what "transphobic" means anymore. But Dave Chapelle is not a hateful person at all to anyone. Not anyone. Not to a gay, lesbian, or transgender individual.

Dave Chappelle had been coaching Daphne Dorman (who was a transgender comic), until she was driven to suicide for defending him from accusations of transphobia. One of such accusers calling a transgender comic "Dave's repellent", and doing so at the cost of promoting that transgender person name in the title - is so ironic.

@Dave- very nice of you to give Andy a shout out and help her get some additional listens. That being said, I listened to her album (spotify link: https://t.ly/N8t2) and it's literally not funny. Even the audience is barely laughing, and when they do it's mostly out of pity. (the "onlyglands" line is borderline funny, I guess)

Also, as others have pointed out, Dave Chapelle and JK Rowling are not transphobic. Anyone who's actually listened to them and not just read what others say about them knows this, including much of the LGBTQ+ community.

Hopefully The Stranger can find a way to get back to being not shitty. It was actually not shitty for a long time. But now, it's shitty. And it sucks. And I'm not sure why I even bother to read articles any more because they almost all suck and are shitty. Including this one.

Embrace reality. Do better. I believe in you.

@6 -- Total bullshit. No one said that "actually trans people are the real transphobes". Only that people are fucking wrong about Chappelle. Are you really denying his relationship with Dorman or how Daphne died? From https://www.thedailybeast.com/dave-chappelle-backed-by-family-of-late-transgender-comedian-daphne-dorman-from-the-closer:

Two of Dorman’s sisters told The Daily Beast they were outraged at the suggestion that Chappelle’s set was transphobic or derogatory toward the LGBTQ community, saying they wanted to make clear they supported the comedian.

“Daphne was in awe of Dave’s graciousness,” Dorman’s sister Becky wrote in a text. “She did not find his jokes rude, crude, off-coloring, off-putting, anything. She thought his jokes were funny. Daphne understood humor and comedy—she was not offended. Why would her family be offended?”

“Dave loved my sister and is an LGBTQ ally,” Dorman’s younger sister Brandy added in a text message. “His entire set was begging to end this very situation.” Dave loved my sister and is an LGBTQ ally. His entire set was begging to end this very situation. “At this point I feel like he poured his heart out in that special and no one noticed,” Brandy wrote in a separate Facebook post. “What he’s saying to the LGBTQ family is, ‘I see you. Do you see me? I’m mourning my friend in the best way I know how. Can you see me? Can you allow me that?’... This was a call to come together, that two oppressed factions of our nation put down their keyboards and make peace. How sad that this message was lost in translation.”
