If you like to be in the crowd when comics tape live performances for posterity, you have an opportunity to do so at the Showbox when Emily Heller dispenses her engaging observational and self-deprecating comedy next Saturday, June 16 (she’ll be doing sets at 7 and 10 pm; tickets available here).
Heller is currently a writer on the popular television show Barry (Ned Lannamann wrote on Slog that the series “combines pitch-black comedy with an even darker drama about a hit man trying to make a clean break from his past”), and she hosts the podcast Baby Geniuses; Heller also released an album on Kill Rock Stars in 2015 titled Good for Her.
As for the name of the show, “No Men Allowed—Kinda!!!” Heller explains that there’s no way to legally prevent people with a Y chromosome from entering the venue, but she views the concept as an effective way to get more publicity, similar to how the makers of the film Wonder Woman did.
