About Blow Up, Emily Pothast writes that "word on the street is there will be a tunnel landscape, a soundscape, and a bunch of handmade balloons." We're stoked. Photo by Trevor Dykstra

Tonight is Capitol Hill Art Walk, your monthly opportunity to check out galleries and special events with other tipsy art lovers. Here’s our guide to events to check out—ones marked with (*) are critics’ picks.

* Art, Music, and Drinks with Sanctuary Art Center
As part of the Capitol Hill Art Walk, stop in at cool, cavernous Barça to hear some live jazz and see creations from the Sanctuary Art Center, which facilitates art-making by homeless and “street-involved” youth. * Blow Up
One of the best things about summer is seeing all the inflatable flamingos and human-size hot dogs cruising down at the lake. This summer, independent press Mount Analogue and art gallery the Factory are joining forces to bring the floatie vibe indoors with BLOW UP, an exhibition of inflatables as art. It’s a medium that’s been explored by artists from Jeff Koons to Niki de Saint Phalle, but it can never be explored enough if you ask me. Participating artists include Amanda James Parker, Peter Dodds, Seattle Design Nerds, and Guy Merrill. And word on the street is there will be a tunnel landscape, a soundscape, and a bunch of handmade balloons.

The organizers add: “Y’all really don’t want to miss the chance to run through a custom-made large-scale inflatable tunnel to greet some handmade balloons while a million colors get projected around you and a soundscape explodes in your ear — then you can grab a blow pop and chill in one of our blow-up chairs ~” EMILY POTHAST

8:30 pm Live Music Performance by DON

DON is a group hailing from the University of Washington. We play a genre we call Future Soul- a style of music derived from R&B, Jazz, Hip Hop, Electronic, and Alternative. We’re comprised of Pop and Jazz musicians mostly from UW’s music program- but we hail from as close to home as Tacoma, Washington and as far away as Memphis, Tennessee. We’re fascinated with the R&B of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, as well as Fusion Jazz from the 70s & 80s. We try to combine the two whenever we can. The result is something that is smooth & Pop-sensible, but improvised and experimental as well.” (Promo Copy)

Sanders’ work with film photography looks at the ways in which our natural & cultural worlds affect our identity work, our sense of home, and the norms we both cling to and deviate from. Reception includes complimentary bites and sips.

Sharece Phillips is an artist, therapeutic art facilitator, poet, and DJ who currently lives and works in Seattle WA. Using Raw or Outsider Art as inspiration, Sharece explores innovative methods in intuitive art making, testing the boundaries of naive and fine art.
