The abstract work of Agnes Martin, who died in 2004, became noisily famous in direct disproportion to its hermity, ravishingly delicate quiet. Martin, (mis)classified as one of the minimalists, is associated with her longtime home, New Mexico, but a little-known fact: She’s from this region—born in Vancouver, BC, attended Western Washington University. The faint drawings and small paintings of the younger Lynne Woods Turner of Portland—toweringly modest visual seductions—take after Martin.
