Every month, The Stranger‘s Night School invites guest speakers to take on society’s most vexing problems. So far this year, we’ve held events on consent, gun violence, and white nationalism. Today, we’ll be talking about Seattle’s housing crisis. The event will take place at St. John’s Bar and Eatery from 6 to 8 pm.

With skyrocketing rents and nearly 12,000 people experiencing homelessness, Seattle’s housing crisis is as bad as it ever was. Too bad we can’t agree on solutions. Where should we raise money to build more housing? Why are so many neighborhoods resisting new development? How do we balance the need for new housing with concerns of displacement and gentrification?

Joining us as we explore these questions:

Hodan Hassan, climate justice organizer for Got Green.

Laura Loe, a housing advocate who is affiliated with organizing efforts including Affordable Talaris, Seattle for Everyone, and MOAR Backyard Cottages.

Zach Lubarsky, political director for Seattle Tech 4 Housing.

Heidi Groover, a Stranger reporter who covers housing, will moderate.
