Move over Emerald City Comicon, Sakura-Con, and PAX. My new favorite convention is CRYPTICON—”Largest Horror Convention in the Pacific Northwest.” Not only did I get to hug Dee Wallace—star of The Howling, the mom in E.T. and Cujo, and soon one of the witches in Rob Zombie’s new movie Lords of Salem—I got to shake this guy’s gigantic hand, talk to Marilyn Burns (the lady who runs and runs and screams and runs some more in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and I walked up Doug Bradley, “pin-head” from Hellraiser and high-fived him right after meeting Ricou Browning, the guy who played The Creature From The Black Lagoon. There were books, authors, directors, workshops, panels, merch, zombie tag, LARP-ers, film screenings, and last but not least, a panel of a bunch of local ghost-hunters discussing pros and cons of Ouija boards.
My only complaint was there were too many zombies and not enough vampires. Professional wrestler and former WWE star Gangrel had to pretty much hold it down for the fangs.
