The surprising thing about Land Ho! is that it should be a bad film. It’s a road-trip flick—practically an advertisement for Iceland’s tourism industry—and it’s about two lonely, old white guys who’re dealing with broken marriages and broken dreams. But the film works! Why? Because of the two old stars, Earl Lynn Nelson and Paul Eenhoorn (who’s a current nominee for a Stranger Genius Award). It’s fucking amazing that they made so much out of so little. Nelson relentlessly pumps out the comedy, and Eenhoorn convincingly counters this bombardment and brings a much-needed splash of sunlight to the film’s end.
