Description: Cutters Crabhouse is an upscale tourist spot right by the water next to Pike Place Market, with a soaring vista of Elliott Bay. (They remodeled recently, taking out a view-impeding wall and replacing the 1980s-cigar-bar furnishings with a current, if standard-issue, collection.) Cutters serves steak, sushi, and, of course, crab—you'll see the dismembered parts resting on ice and the live ones piled together, hanging out in a tank. Maybe they're bored, or they can't stop crying, or they're trying to relax enough to at least have a halfway decent time. I want to know, but it's hard to tell what they're thinking by looking at their faces.
What else: Cutters has been around for decades, though it hasn't been in the news much—except for a bit role in a 1987 Seattle Times article describing a man's arrest for reckless endangerment because he'd been harvesting the garbage from Cutters' bins and then sprinkling it from a nearby railing onto cars passing below. "I threw the trash out on the road because trash has all the chemical elements of cocaine," he reasoned with police. "I'm just doing society an environmental favor."
