Description: The Crocodile is the legendary Belltown music venue established a couple decades ago, right as the grunge scene was in the midst of shooting its wad. A collection of papier-mâché snakes, devils, and fanciful beehives once decorated the ceiling of the bar in the back, and they were caked in dust, imparting a fun, decaying effect. They vanished during the remodel, though the wrought-iron chandeliers and pastel window panels survived. Today, the space is airy and tidy and lively, and the towering, diamond-tufted black leather booths seem both menacing and luxurious.

What else: They've got a shitload of Charles Peterson's iconic black-and-white photographs, including a Courtney Love portrait, by the bathrooms. She's doubled over, her expression is queasy; she wears banshee-white garments. Her look embodies the ghost of dry heaves past. The north wall's display is spooky because each musician is deceased: Andrew Wood, Mia Zapata, Layne Staley, and Kurt Cobain. (Lightening the tension, the latter is smiling goofily and has a poofy bowl cut.)
