The Hillman City revival continues at Union Bar, a cozy, no-gimmicks neighborhood joint run by two unionized teachers under the motto “Where Labor Rests.” The unambitious menu of burgers, salads, and sloppy sandwiches is good and reasonably priced—regulars rave about the deep-fried pickle chips, if you’re into that sort of thing—and the well-stocked bar offers an ample selection of local microbrews, including a rotating tap from tasty Spinnaker Bay Brewing across the street. But it’s the casual, dark-but-not dreary ambience that makes Union Bar a welcoming place to just hang out and enjoy a drink. (Union Bar, 5609 Rainier Ave S, 258-4377, 4–11 pm)
