As Capitol Hill Seattle Blog reported yesterday: Our neighborhood Taco Time is closing. Taco Time, while not actually good good, holds a special place in many Pacific Northwest natives’ hearts—it’s like a better version of school-lunch tacos. I went to Taco Bell exactly once, and never again, because Taco Time kicks Taco Bell’s behind. And while Rancho Bravo is even closer in the two-block radius, certain people at The Stranger cheat on it, sneaking over to Taco Time for lunch every month or three.
Goodbye, Capitol Hill Taco Time. You will be missed.

For one, TT is not going out of business and for two its not our only good “‘Mexican’ fast food chain” here. Its one location that had a ton of competition and local eateries around with comparable prices and usually somewhat healthier options.

“A quick phone chat with manager Rodney Keith confirmed the worst.
The Madison Taco Time will close its doors on Sunday. Keith says he’s moving on to a new gig. All other questions were referred to company HQ so no word on whether this was a surgical closure or part of a widespread downsizing for the chain.
According to the Taco Time Web Northwest site, the Madison location is one of 75 in the state. Wikipedia says the chain has more than 200 franchises in the US and another 75 in Canada and Japan.
The departure is also the latest in a long, slow exodus from the Hill for national fast food chains. Hill outlets of Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, and Kentucky Fried Chicken have all closed within the past three years.”
Good riddance. Taco Time can eat a dick.
Who cares? We’ve got Rancho Bravo, we’ve got Tacos Guymas, we’ve got the Taco Del Mar, we’ve got La Puerta .. if you want to load up on unlimited amounts of tacos, there’s La Cocina .. there’s Galerias if you’ve got too much money and not much sense … go up the Hill, there’s the place that used to be Jalisco ..
Taco Time will be missed only by those people who have to eat at Mcdonalds at least once every month or they don’t feel right.

Wow. Just one more reason to move from the hill. It is a sad shell of what is use to be. I loved going to Taco Bell late at night(when it used to be by TWO grocery stores), and Jack in the Box was a capital hill staple. All you food Nazis can go to hell(or Dicks). KFC was also good. Where else can you get fried chicken on the hill?
Boy…what we need is some more of those vegan restaurants, with their delicious spring rolls and gelatinous soups. So good. Or better yet, now we can go get a $10 burger from Broadway grill. You know to support the local(overpriced and over-hyped) businesses.
Capital Hill is overrun with self righteous condo owing liberals. It is hardly the grungy intercity neighborhood it use to be. The Defend Capital Hill campaign failed. Period.
@58 If losing a fast food franchise is a reason for you to move off the hill then get thee fucking GONE. I’d like my neighborhood to look unique instead of like every other suburb in the country.
Also, Rancho Bravo is fucking heaven. Now where’s mah satay bar?

@59, not looking like a suburb is good, but so is cheap food. We’ve lost Taco Bell and Taco Time, but gained Rancho Bravo and Taco Gringos. In the last five years we’ve also lost Jack in the Box, KFC, and Kidd Valley. I can’t think of three more new cheap-food places that have popped up to replace them. The north end of Broadway has a definite lack of non-Dicks late night cheap food. I’d gladly take a few of the random gyros/döner places I’ve seen in New York or Berlin, or any other food place that’s about the same size as the Vivace stand.
…that makes me wonder. Did the Vivace stand used to be a food stand at one point? It looks like it.

fond memory: losing my retainer in their garbage and digging through the dumpster for an hour until i found it.
no big surprise i stopped going there after that.
I heart Taco Time! You can bitch about it being a chain or a staple of suburbia or whatever, but you can NOT dispute the sheer delicious deep fried goodness that is a crisp bean burrito. Mmmmmmm…..

26,,,ACTUALLY, there have been TWO failed Burger Kings on Broadway, one about where the African themed store South of Charlie’s door is, and the other in the strip mall area above the South QFC, not the one where the Broadway market was. Anybody remeber Henry’s Off Broadway or Lion O’Reileys and BJ Monkeyshines?
