The namesake folk song of this Georgetown watering hole chronicles the perilous details of a coal miner’s life: the traveling of great lengths to obtain a brew; the hauling of impossibly heavy carts of coal; and, quite ominously, the envisioning of pitch-black tombstones. The song ends when the miner promises, in abject frustration, to disappear behind a mountain and never return. For those working stiffs who are unwilling to travel, or vanish, Nine Pound Hammer offers a cozy reprieve from the daily grind. Antique fixtures adorn each crimson wall, and the couches are plush and deep. Rest and relax with a happy-hour special: PBR and Lucky Lager ($1, Wednesday), or select bottles of Mexican beer ($2, Friday).
