… Dallas Braden of the Oakland Athletics threw the 19th no-hitter perfect game in MLB history during just the 18th win in his career. Just sayin’.

UPDATE: As commenter Nick points out, Braden is on bad terms with Alex Rodriguez, for which he should also be commended.

  1. Do you mean the 19th perfect game? There have probably been a few thousand no-hitters in MLB history, but 19 sounds about right for the # of perfect games (27 up, 27 down, no baserunners allowed).

  2. Yup, he threw the 19th perfecto and 266th no-hitter. (and yes, I’m counting Joe Borden’s no-hitter for the Philly White Stockings)

  3. 19th no hitter in baseball history. no goals, no power plays, no personal disappointment. Ritual hand slaps all around!

  4. Yes, I know we hate Rodriguez because he’s going to the Hall of Fame, makes more money than us, is hansomer than us, is a rich guy who gets away with stuff even though his PR firm sucks, went back on his word to only advertise for natural foods, and he jilted us for that rich girl in Texas.

And Braden through a perfect game.

None of the above negates tha fact that Braden was a moron and a media hound when he continued made a big deal out of Rodrigues crossing the back of the mound. Despite the fratboy sport fan noise egging Braden on re Rodrigues, some day when he’s older and more experienced, he’s going to look back on this and say to himself, “What a moron I was.”

  5. Heh. And A-rod was giving him shit for being a nobody when Braden yelled at him for the crossing-the-pitcher’s-mound incident. There’s nothing A-rod can do that will be this good.

  6. @ 11, I sincerely doubt that. And given that most of the coverage I saw ranged from “how ’bout those obscure unwritten rules” to “unknown pitcher tears A-Rod’s a new one,” I think a lot of others sincerely doubt your conclusion too.
