SATURDAY 1/29

VERA GALA

Happy birthday, Vera Project! This weekend, the all-ages organization celebrates 10 years of being amazing. For the past decade, the staff and volunteers at Vera have battled through the infamous Teen Dance Ordinance, moved multiple times to a variety of different venues (remember the stairs at the Fourth Avenue location? UGH!), suffered city budget cuts, and still managed to help bring a thriving and enviable all-ages music scene to the city. Tonight, they rightfully celebrate their 10 years of hard work with a fancy-pants auction, dinner, and dance party. Don't worry if a pricey black-tie fundraiser isn't your style (or budget)—a more rock-and-roll celebration is happening tomorrow night (see below). Showbox Sodo, 5 pm, $150, visit www.vivavera.com for tickets.

SUNDAY 1/30

FORGETTERS

The Vera Project's birthday weekend continues with a show that will quite possibly be one of the best live music experiences of 2011, as Forgetters are the band started up by Blake Schwarzenbach, whose musical résumé includes Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil, and the short-lived (but good!) Thorns of Life. See page 37 for more information. Vera Project, 7:30 pm, $11.

WEDNESDAY 2/2

THE GET UP KIDS

The Get Up Kids are back with a new record that's better than the last two they released before breaking up! Hooray! Flip to page 49 to read more about it. Neumos, 7 pm, $21, all ages (balcony only).
