FRIDAY 3/18

HEADHUNTER'S MANIC ASS-MOVERS

Returning to Seattle after a raging set at last year's Decibel Festival, Bristol, England, producer/DJ Headhunter (aka Addison Groove) brings manic excitement and a libidinous twitchiness to the hydra-headed future-bass sound sprouting out of the UK. Affiliated with revered labels Tempa and Swamp 81, Headhunter produces tracks that will push your limbs to their limit trying to move in time to them. With Seattle's foremost electro producer 214 and Car Crash Set Records boss/future-bass ambassador Ill Cosby. Chop Suey, 9 pm, $12 adv/$15 DOS, 21+.

PROEM'S ABSTRACT BEAT SCIENCE

Proem (aka Houston-based producer/web designer Richard Bailey) has been grinding in the IDM trenches since 1999, establishing himself as one of America's most accomplished creators of abstract beat programming and melancholy, minor-key melodies. On albums like 1999's Burn Plate No. 1, 2001's Among Others, 2004's Socially Inept, and last year's Enough Conflict, Proem reveals an acute sense of granular texture and complex rhythm construction that compares favorably with Autechre's. Now, a lot of musicians casually get compared to Autechre, but Proem is actually one of the few artists to merit that prestigious name-check. Why he's not a household name in the geekier demographic enclaves of the world is a mystery. See www.proemland.com for more information. Portland's Phidelity (aka Kris Northern) works in the sexy nexus where electro funk and dub conjugate, resulting in tracks with a lot of junk in their trunk. Mr. Northern's music also suggests he has a familiarity with the psychotropic effects of ganja. With b0t23 and Manos. Lo-Fi Performance Gallery, 9 pm, $10, 21+.

SATURDAY 3/19

TRUST TURNS 2, SOULFULLY

TRUST celebrates two years of soulful, savvy commingling of dub, disco, house, and techno with a headlining appearance by DJ Riz, whose name looks odd without "the legendary" preceding it. Renowned for his wide-ranging, adventurous selections on his KEXP show on Monday nights and the Expansions program, Riz also has been an MVP for decades among the city's house aficionados. If you can't feel good during a Riz set, you must be Dick Cheney. With residents SunTzu Sound and Kid Hops. Baltic Room, 9 pm, $10, 21+.
