LA LA VASQUEZ, BRILLIANT COLORS
La La Vasquez's C86-indebted pop tunes turn on a dime, their spacious guitar melodies giving way to chugging, distorted verses, their three-part vocal harmonies periodically melting into dissonant chants. It's like whiskey in a juice box. Their legitimately British ditties will go down well with the bright, buoyant sounds of musical Anglophiles Brilliant Colors. Cairo, 8 pm, $5.
NAOMI PUNK, HAUSU, PLEASURE BEAUTIES
Northwest trio Naomi Punk are hard at work on their next full-length record, and my expectations are understandably high. Fans of their brackish, brutal sound can satiate themselves in the meantime with "The Spell," a catchy, Ty Segall–esque single unleashed two months back (www.naomipunk.bandcamp.com). Hausu are a band I've spent a lot of ink and energy proselytizing on behalf of, and I remain entranced by their sound—the interlocking guitar licks à la Thin Lizzy, the booming Springsteen choruses, the surprisingly dour, gothy lyrics. The latter were made available in their entirety recently via the Portland band's tumblr (www.hausuboys.tumblr.com), and are well worth checking out, if only for lines like "Franco Luambo's dead, are you interested in me?/I wanna touch your skin, I wanna sing in my own voice. " Cairo, 8 pm, $5.
