SHIT ROBOT IS FLUSH WITH UNCRAPPY DISCO/HOUSE CUTS
Shit Robot is the eye-grabbing pseudonym for Berlin-based Irish DJ/producer Marcus Lambkin, a stalwart of DFA Records' roster. We're still feeling his 2006 Italo-disco monster "Wrong Galaxy"/"Triumph," and his 2010 album, From the Cradle to the Rave, shoehorned its many guest vocalists—including Ian Svenonius, James Murphy, and Nancy Whang—into myriad interesting house/disco configurations. Shit Robot's new album, We Got a Love, features two tracks with ex-Seattle vocalist/comedian Reggie Watts and gets more cosmic with the disco and funkier and sexier with the house. SCUBA'S DEEP-SEA DUBSTEP/TECHNO FUSIONS
Leave it to the Brits to find the cleverest ways to make dubstep (pre–bass drop über alles style) and techno cohere into excellent specimens of beat science. One of the best at this arcane practice is Scuba (Paul Rose), owner of the boundary-eroding Hotflush Recordings and, up till July '13, resident DJ at revered Berlin club Berghain's Sub:Stance night. As a producer, Scuba creates spidery, complex latticeworks of beats through which he threads eerie, momentous synth patterns to form intriguing sonic puzzles. UR MEMBER SANTIAGO SALAZAR KICKS OFF KREMWERK'S DARK TIME TECHNO NIGHT
This is the second official night of business for the Seattle club Kremwerk, which is run by Berlin transplant Austin Stone. And it says volumes about the guy's aesthetics that he's booked Underground Resistance member Santiago Salazar so soon after opening. A disciple of UR's Mad Mike Banks and now living in Los Angeles, Salazar (aka Aztech Sol) has been a key member of the Los Hermanos and Galaxy 2 Galaxy bands. Pedigree! His tracks toggle between sexy house and edgy, minimal techno with that shiver-inducing, Motor City corona of soul swirling over everything. Local DJ/producers Ctrl_Alt_Dlt (Chris Aldrich) and Roddimus (Jesse Farmer) are not only helping Stone with Kremwerk's booking (they call their night Dark Time), they've proven themselves to be top-flight curators of disorienting, after-hours-techno vibes. Aldrich and Farmer earned this position with their marathon Sweatbox parties that often lasted till brunch time. Odds are they can rock the house before midnight, too. Kremwerk, 9 pm, $10, 21+.
