BIG BUSINESS: BONGS OF MASS DECONSTRUCTION
Stoner metal-punks Big Business use songs as weapons of massive riff deconstruction, and do it better than pretty much anyone else right now. Originally formed in Seattle, the furiously rocking duo fled to LA's significantly less green, er, pastures in 2006. But tonight, the now-trio will be wreaking methodical havoc on the Seattle Center all-ages haven Vera Project. Big Business's earth-crumbling brand of sludge is executed with no apologies and should appeal to a wide variety of heavy-music enthusiasts. The trio's hell-bent-yet-controlled chaos shatters eardrums and minds with an unyielding velocity, so don't forget to bring the necessary protection. Fortunate showgoers of the first leg of their appropriately named Situation Awesome! tour also get the super-bonus of Portland's heavy-metal titans Red Fang, but for the tail-end Northwest leg—deemed Situation Business by the band—they are backed by more thunderous and groovy riffage from bong-clad party-warlocks American Sharks. SNUFF REDUX'S DAZED AND ENTHUSED POP, MLTD'S SAD-DELICA
The nice folks at Capitol Hill space Cairo have booked yet another artistically sound bill of local and touring talent. Ushering in a night of musical whimsy, newish local power-pop trio Snuff Redux coax out slickly woozy, sun-lathered guitar lines and highly dazed and enthused hooks. It's easy-listening kinda-punk for sunny-day cruisin' on things with wheels. Also boosting the bill's chill factor, Stockton, California, sadcore ensemble MLTD make lo-fi indie rock in a nearly permanent dream state. Melding the quietly chain-sawed, postcoital breakup intimacy of Sebadoh and Galaxie 500's shoegaze sad-delica with a subdued sinuousness, MLTD ooze forth a melodic and hazy blur. Prepare to float, sigh, and/or cry to this band's overtly emotional songs. The chill vibes are continued with San Diego pop act/underground reefer-wave sensations Heavy Hawaii (on Art Fag) and hometown garage-rock valedictorians Dude York. Cairo, 8 pm, $7.
