DO IT FOR THE KIDS: A BENEFIT FOR NEW MOON FARM GOAT SANCTUARY
Your local DIY radio station Hollow Earth is hosting two excellent shows this weekend, and Friday's show is all about, well, goats and hardcore. Many Northwest animal shelters cannot accommodate wayward goats, but these noble creatures found homes when Arlington's New Moon Farm Goat Sanctuary was born in 1999. Check out a furiously articulated slice of Northwest hardcore tonight while helping New Moon Farm expand its facilities to continue nothing short of heroism. LONESOME LEASH, ERICA FREAS, YOUR HEART BREAKS
Songwriter Erica Freas's harrowingly close 'n' personal songs might not be what fans of her popular Olympia pop punk band RVIVR would expect. Armed with just an acoustic guitar and a lack of storytelling inhibition, Freas writes songs in a disarmingly straightforward way. Your Heart Breaks will also, ahem, break your heart with charming fuzz-pop nuggets drenched in bedroom confessional sentimentality. Fortunately, YHB songwriter Clyde Petersen goes feelings-core without getting saturated in overly sappy emo tropes. With New Orleans–based accordion-sporting ensemble Lonesome Leash's meditative folk, this will be a sit-down-and-think-friendly show filled with nothing but positive energy at one of Seattle's last-standing all-ages safe spaces. AN AMBIENT-METAL FAIRY TALE (SAGE WANDS NOT INCLUDED)
German/Spanish forest-folk ensemble Sangre De Muerdago just might bewitch you with their magisterially cloaked melodies. With spiraling finger-picked strings and baroque flute pirouettes, SDM forge sonic thickets of doom worth getting entrenched in. Olympia's woodland sprites Ekstasis make lush, dense, ecological-metal instrumentals that send listeners adrift to far-off lands of pan flutes and flower crowns. Seattle anarcho-punk band Kohosh use peace- and crust-punk influences to create a "personal take on the politics and struggles of... cultures of resistance." Local ambient darkness mavens Thunder Grey Pilgrim also bring the doom-forest vibes, making it a metal-folk-dominated night for the sages. Black Lodge, 8:30 pm.
