At long last, Seattle's grunge-rap king and impresario of the local "dark wave"— Nacho Picasso—has signed to producer Harry Fraud's Surf School Recordings label (under the new Priority Records, through Capitol Music Group, itself under the Universal Music Group). Fraud is perhaps the era's most recognizable name brand in rap production from the (north) East Coast, with a thick file of joints done with French Montana, Rick Ross, and Curren$y, for starters. (Just think Chinx Drugz' "I'm a Coke Boy (Remix).") Looking at Fraud's discography, it's possible that you might soon hear Nacho pop up with any of those names. Nacho's well-known love of the weird will find a perfect sounding board in Fraud, who thinks nothing of turning old psych-rock jams into locker-room shit-talk rap-fests.

The producer with undoubtedly the moment's most dominating sound—a spare, 808-driven reboot of the ultra-classic, ultra-catchy West Coast sounds of yore—is one DJ Mustard, hailing from Los Angeles, California. Mustard recently took to Instagram—rap's social-media platform of choice, don'tcha know—to announce the inaugural signing to his new 10 Summers label: Seattle's Royce the Choice. Royce and Mustard have been jamming since at least "Midnight Run" from the producer's Ketchup tape, where it became apparent not only that Royce could hold his own amongst any West Coast up-and-comers, but that he could dominate. With this announcement, Royce's upcoming Black King County release is an even bigger deal than anticipated.

Now that that's out of the way, it's time to play my favorite game, y'all—Who Will Survive in America? How about the woman who was kidnapped, gang-raped, burned alive, and shot (in that order) by three Atlanta men after she served all three in an impromptu backyard freestyle battle? Incredibly, thankfully, she lived.

How about the leaked memo from the Seattle Police Department's East Precinct that said that they weren't using enough force, and that "arresting suspects is a team sport"? Citizens, be aware that the boys in blue are your enemies until they convincingly prove otherwise. How about the ongoing drama in Ferguson? The police chief who swears he was injured in a fight when he tried to join a march for justice in the murder of Mike Brown at the hands of officer Darren Wilson, who's nowhere to be found (besides at the bottom of a 430K GoFundMe windfall)? What about the Ferguson PD officers with black tape over their nameplates, wearing "I Am Darren Wilson" bracelets? How about the officers that shot and killed a black man holding a BB gun in the aisle of a Walmart—who are facing no charges? There's a war going on outside that a big segment of society is not safe from— because they're the intended target. Why? Do they want us to react, so that we in turn get slaughtered and imprisoned in the CCA's slave camps? So I ask you to ask yourself, who will survive? recommended
