There’s something so soothing and enchanting about the music of Bahamas, the nom de plume of Canadian folk artist Afie Jurvanen. He’s got a rather fine vocal quality—strong, rich, sweet, able to hit high notes. His music is pretty fucking great, too—alt folk that’s breezy and sublime. You might’ve heard “All the Time” in a Motorola commercial a few years back (I admit, that’s how I was first introduced—I actually Shazamed it because I was vaguely reminded of John Lennon). The track came off his third LP, 2014's Bahamas Is Afie, which earned two wins at the 2015 Juno Awards—Adult Alternative Album of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year for "All the Time," "Bitter Memories," and "Stronger Than That." Fourth and latest record Earthtones has a decidedly grooving, blue eye-soul appeal. RIYL: José González, Bon Iver, Radical Face, Donavon Frankenreiter.

There are more than 80 musical acts performing at Bumbershoot 2018, which happens this Labor Day Weekend (Aug. 31-Sept. 2) on the Seattle Center grounds.
