Usually, this time of year presents a huge downturn in things to do,
leaving us all to our CD/DVD collections. Not so much this year. Thank
your deity of choice that you aren’t resigned to spending all your time
with *sigh* friends and family. Yet.

Pioneer Square is usually worlds apart from what gets mentioned in
this space, with a wholly different sound and demographic. Last Supper
Club’s OpenHouse, gateway for many baby-faced club noobs, is
bridging the gap by bringing in the Shameless crew. Shameless
should play well to this audience, since their whole MO is injecting
rave energy into the often-staid club scene. Shameless and
OpenHouse is an ideal pairing, and this party has a high probability of
ending with the audience’s hands in the air in full DJ worship.

Broken Disco gets some disco of the intact variety for this
month’s edition on Friday, December 14. There’s End.user and
Novatron to provide the usual eardrum destruction, along with
Milwaukee’s Codebreaker for live disco funk, complemented
by a set from local disco scholar (and Stranger contributor)
TJ Gorton. It’s fine to listen to music designed for the future,
but sometimes you need to take a step back to recognize your musical
roots.

The Knight Riders are back. The promoters are cutting back on
their earlier Hoff-centricity while keeping the musical talent
as totally awesome as a talking car. They’ve gone overboard with the
lineup, booking not only five live acts, but five head-to-head DJ
“battles” as well. With styles as varied as former Seattle Laptop
Battle champ Squid Leader‘s bangin’ techno to xBen‘s
hyperintelligent crunk/techno mashups (crunkno?) to Copy‘s
keytarded electro, there’s bound to be something for all tastes. The
underground vibe of this party (the location is still TBA) might take
this from merely great to epic.

Wednesday, December 19, gives you two chances to support new nights.
If you’re looking for your breakbeat fix, there’s Konkrete
Jungle
at CHAC’s Lower Level. They’re looking to build on the
opening night’s success, this month bringing in NYC’s DJ Odi.
He’s considered an innovator in jump-up, combining jungle with (even
more) hiphop elements. Then there’s the oft-mentioned Bonkers!,
now (permanently?) at Re-bar. They’ve got Seattle heavyweights Kris
Moon
and Jerry Abstract playing sets, but headlining they’ve
wisely pulled in Jon McMillion. He’s still just below the radar,
but he’s gotten
better with every set he’s performed, exploding
with new ideas, leaving you conflicted as to whether you should dance
or shake
his hand. recommended
