THE SOUND AND THE FURY OF METZ

(Crocodile) It’s too soon to say whether people will be talking about the first time they saw Toronto trio METZ in the hushed tones reserved for post-punk predecessors Wire and Hรผsker Dรผ. But I’m happy to do so: it was a muggy night two summers ago. The songs I’d heard online showed promise, and I went out of curiosity more than anything else. Seconds into their sweat-soaked set, I became a believer, and I’ll be damned if they weren’t the nicest guys, too. That fall, Sub Pop released METZโ€™s paint-peeling debut, and they’ve been touring ever since, but the true test will arrive with their second album. Will it compare to the first? Here’s hoping they preview new material, and answer that question in the affirmative. KATHY FENNESSY

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: FROM THRASH TO SLUDGE WITH A BULLET

(El Corazon) Raleigh, N.C. thrash-punk-turned-sludge-metal pioneers Corrosion of Conformity have weathered several personnel changes and multiple hiatuses (one for nearly four years) in the 32 (!) years since their inception. Theyโ€™re now down to a touring lineup of only three members, but fortunately itโ€™s all founding onesโ€”Woody Weatherman, Mike Dean, and Reed Mullin, the exact roster responsible for 1985โ€™s Animosity. Their recent reunion has been much more fruitful than most such things, with both 2012โ€™s self-titled and this yearโ€™s IX (their ninth album, of course) capturing plenty of the swampy heaviness that made them one of the hardest bands doing it during their glory days. Chances are they will sound even better live, especially with their deep back catalog mixed in. MIKE RAMOS

LUST STRENGTHโ€™S SINISTER TECHNO AND AMBIENT WEIRDNESS

Sunday nights at Kremwerk typically skew toward the weirder end of the electronic-music spectrum, because thatโ€™s how the Lord would want it. Right? Tonight the local trio Lust Strength (Cryptsโ€™ synth magus Nick Bartoletti, Chris Blohm, and DJ Beautiful Horse) rule the sound system with iron fists. Their approach includes live modular psychedelic visuals, audio synthesis, and DJ sets of a particularly morbid hue. Noisy techno and dark ambient tracks prevail here, with artists like Mika Vainio, Demdike Stare, NON, Rrose, Drexciya, Lustmord, and Silent Servant figuring heavily in the mix. With DJ Mascara. Kremwerk, 9 pm, free, 21+. DAVE SEGAL
