Share the fantasy of godheadSilo’s unexpected comeback. Sub Pop

Good news for people missing the monolithic, low-end destruction propagated by Olympia via Fargo, North Dakota’s godheadSilo. Bassist Mike Kunka and drummer Dan Haugh, the power duo, who split in 1998 after releasing three albums, are returning to the live stage November 20 at Chop Suey. Tickets go on sale Friday, September 4.

My godheadSilo story: My first trip to Seattle occurred in 1996 when their label, Sub Pop, invited a bunch of editors from Cleveland-based Alternative Press magazine (where I was working at the time) to help celebrate the indie label’s eighth anniversary at a party at Showbox at the Market. godheadSilo performed. It was around the time their second LP, Skyward in Triumph, had been released. I don’t remember much from that nightโ€”not even what my colleague Sean Nelson remembers as Sebadoh’s supposedly career-sabotaging shenanigans [ED NOTE: I loved it.-SN]โ€”except the apocalyptic power and volume of Kunka and Haugh’s set. The only shows that have surpassed godheadSilo in cochlear damage have been My Bloody Valentine, Glenn Branca, and Dinosaur Jr. So, it’ll be great to get reacquainted with godheadSilo’s crushing intensity after all these years.

In other godheadSilo-related news, Sub Pop is releasing a long-dormant 1998 collab between Melvins and Mike Kunka. The musicians reconnected after years apart and finished the songs; the release date currently remains unknown. Exclaim has more info about that here.
