I worked in Richmond with a guy who no longer picked up hitch hikers. Because, in the early 1970s he picked up a young woman in a flower dress in Marin, thumbing a ride east. @ 6 -- I'm willing to bet than Manson will never see the outside of a prison (unless it's a hospital on his deathbed) and will never have conjugal relations with his wife. Even so, the ruling you cite is extremely important, one of over a dozen SCOTUS rulings protecting the fundamental right to marry. We grant certain classes of individuals heightened judicial scrutiny because of historic persecution, and perhaps someday LGBTs will be so recognized. But we also recognize certain rights as fundamental, regardless of class, and marriage is one of them.

Recognizing that Manson has a fundamental right to marry helps LGBTs assert their own fundamental rights to marry.
