Keenan C. @1, I'm sure she'll do whatever you want her to do. There's a certain empty vessel quality to first-time office-seeker Jenny Durkan, and figure she and her campaign are just fine with that.
One nitpick on the story. "Earlier this year, it looked like Mayor Ed Murray was a shoe-in for reelection in this year’s mayoral race." That's shoo-in.
Another establishment, "feel good progressive." In public she'll say the right things when it comes to social issues that progressives care about. But the real action is in the backrooms where she'll be kissing the rings of the power brokers with money.
“It’s a tragedy around what’s happened around Mayor Murray. Whether it’s true or not, either way it’s a tragedy, and Jenny is someone that I have tremendous amount of respect for and I’m glad she’s willing to run,” Bagshaw said.
Bagshaw said she developed respect for Durkan after working on the state’s marriage equality campaign in 2012...
Yes, voting for openly gay Durkan, veteran of the marriage equality campaign Murray led, is a good way to stick it to the anti-gay bigots, who used the stereotype of the gay man as sexual predator to deny us voters the chance to judge Murray at the polls.
Gregoire endorsement says it all.
Dino was robbed! Illegal votes of felons! Voter fraud!
Wingnut bloggers of 2005 salute you. If you aren't voting for [...] McGinn, you're doing it wrong.
Admitting the loser lost because he was an annoying loser is simply recognizing reality.
@9 Correct, for the most part. I would argue that McGinn didn't kiss the ring. Because of that, he was constantly trashed by Gregoire and the Democratic Establishment and the local media.
What we need in a Mayor of Seattle is someone who is a good administrator and can handle the increasingly schizo council. McGinn couldn't do that at first, but he grew into his job, and wasn't a bad mayor. It just came too late, and all the gays jumped on the Murray bandwagon.
Durkan will win because she's a lesbian and probably pretty pro-developer. Plus, people will figure it's time for a woman mayor (having not had one since Bertha Knight Landes) . Whether she will do a good job is another matter, but her resume is certainly impressive.
And another thing: Whoever is on the SECB should ask all of the candidates what they intend to do with the Public Safety Block (the empty block to the west of City Hall, where the Public Safety Building used to be). The city is not a real estate developer. They should sell that off to the highest bidder and put the proceeds into a fund for affordable housing. It's absolutely ridiculous/inexcusable that that block is idle.
I've been mulling through candidate questionnaires, websites, and articles and I think Hasegawa understands best that a sound economy and a healthy society must be structured to support its citizenry. He's the only one really articulates that and, in practical terms, his pubic bank proposal could be a great foundation for some critical public financing.
I believe strongly that human needs MUST be integral to any economic and development decision making process. So far Bob Hasegawa has got my vote.

If you aren't voting for either Farrell or McGinn, you're doing it wrong.
(That's a gross simplification, I'll be happy to vote for Oliver too or even McGinn if he comes out swinging).
