Melinda Brockie, a 31-year-old Western Washington University graduate and Lummi Nation tribal member working towards her Masters in Social Work at the University of Washington, was one of the hundreds of people injured in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

According to a release from the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, Brockie had attended the Route 91 Harvest Festival with her husband, Lummi Council Member Travis Brockie and two family members. "Brockie was shot on the right side of her face and the bullet exited through her left cheek," the statement reads.

Brockie's family says that a first responder at the concert saved the young woman's life. “He was an angel to my wife and his act of duty shouldn’t go unnoticed. I don’t know if we will ever meet again but I appreciate all that you did,” Travis Brockie said in a statement.

The family is currently raising funds to pay for Brockie's recovery in Las Vegas and support her two sons. Donate to Brockie's GoFundMe here.
