The gun bills are particularly ridiculous – are any other Constitutional rights like free speech, press, etc subject to an onerous and expensive mandatory permitting & classes regime before they can be lawfully deployed? Of course not. All these bulls would all be eventually struck down in court as obviously unconstitutional burdens on a right, after pointless legal expense, and in the meanwhile target only law-abiding gun owners.

I’m not quite getting Rich’s take on HB 1937 - Sex Work is not the equivalent of human trafficking (and given the horrors of human trafficking), why not add it to the list of required reporting?

Healthcare professionals are already mandated reporters (under existing laws) for child abuse, domestic violence, and physical injuries such as knife and gunshot wounds. Is Rich suggesting the existing mandates keep victims from availing themselves of healthcare?

I really don’t get some of these takes

As someone who attended basic infantry school at Ft. Benning selling firearms to those without training scares the bejesus out of me. Fortunately if I ever break bad it will be cybercrime, not a killing spree.

@1: Bullshit. We already require gun owners who want concealed carry authorization or to purchase semi-auto rifles to secure permits for which there is a fee, so the precedent is already well established. And if you actually READ the 2nd Amendment it is completely silent on whether or not such permits can be made a condition of ownership. It only says a citizen has a right to bear arms; it says nothing about the manner in which such arms can or must be procured.

@5 You are wrong – there is no "permit" or associated "permit fee" required for purchase of a semi-auto rifle in Washington. I'll assume in good faith that you just don't know much about the subject, rather than that you were deliberately lying, but please don't dispense bad legal advice, and perhaps try to avoid speaking on the subject before doing a little reading, as I may not be available to educate you in the future.

A fantastic place to start your reading could be in the Bruen and Heller court decisions, which will also explain why your belief that the Second Amendment provides for no protecrion against unlimited restrictions or excessively burdensome fees on procurement is also incorrect.

@4, while taking some classes is a great idea, unfortunately many of the people in the world who might attempt to harm you will be unaffected by a requirement that they take them, so it's probably best to avoid putting roadblocks in front of your own right to defend yourself.
