As Jenny Durkan racks up more labor endorsements in the race for mayor, Cary Moon announced a handful of endorsements from others on Seattle’s left.

The Sierra Club’s Seattle group, the Transit Riders Union, transgender community leader Danni Askini and the municipal broadband advocacy group Upgrade Seattle have endorsed Moon.

“Cary Moon has spent her career carrying forward the values and vision shared by the Sierra Club,” Jesse Piedfort, chair of the Sierra Club’s Seattle group, said in a statement. “As a candidate for mayor she has done the best job of emphasizing climate and environmental issues in this election with her focus on affordable housing, transit, and sustainability. Moon not only understands the climate crisis, she has spent well over a decade working to try and prepare Seattle to meet it.”

Moon this week endorsed a campaign led by the Transit Riders Union to reduce homeless encampment sweeps. On municipal broadband, Durkan says she’s concerned about the cost while Moon says it would be “a top priority” for her administration.

Seattle City Council member Mike O’Brien and State Representative Noel Frame also announced their endorsements of Moon.

Frame said Moon “shares my priorities and values around housing affordability, growth and justice.” O’Brien said she “has the vision, policy chops, and leadership experience Seattle needs on the 7th floor.”

The race is nearly tied, according to a recent poll paid for by Moon’s camp.
