Young people in Seattle are unsatisfied across the map: Every young person likes to complain. So do old people and babies and even dogs. Itโs just the way we work. But according to a new study, people in Seattle between 21 and 38 are especially fed up with the city, ranking the city last in several different metrics. Overall, this study shows that for young people in the city, the negatives far outweigh the positives. Yea, itโs nice to be able to put cream cheese on a hot dog without getting laughed at, but skyrocketing rent and traffic congestion are a pretty big price to pay for that. According to the Seattle Times, this city definitely has its problems but doesnโt deserve to come in dead last in satisfaction.
I have a whole new reason to hate the dentist: It has been one of the major causes of opioid addiction amongst teens. The CDC found the strong opioid painkillers given to teens after they get their wisdom teeth out are often a young personโs first experience with opioids. For some, it can lead to addiction. I never actually got my wisdom teeth out but I remember during my consultation, the orthodontist proudly said he would hook me up with plenty of the good drugs. At the time that seemed great, now Iโd say hard no. There is now a push amongst professionals and parents to limit teens exposure to opioids through the dentist’s office or avoid them altogether.
ICE moves its air travel to Yakima: Immigration and Customs Enforcement used to detain and transport undocumented people out of Boeing Field, but they got kicked out after recent backlash from immigrant rights advocates. So, ICE is moving their operations to Yakima, but officials there are a little wary of ICEโs activities as well. Itโs not been made clear to the Yakima mayor if this will become a regular thing, but ICE is no doubt looking for a regular place to fly detainees to near the Northwest Detention Center.
Does Trump want to get impeached? Well, we know he won’t actually get impeached because the Republican-controlled Senate will never go for it, but his administration might want Democrats to try to impeach him. Trump is stonewalling House committees that have subpoenaed witnesses like Robert Mueller and documents like the unredacted Mueller report and Trump’s tax returns. He’s said no to all of it over the past couple weeks, which could be a ploy to goad Democrats into starting impeachment hearings. It kind of makes crass, cynical political sense; then he can claim “total exoneration” right before 2020 and still make himself out to be the victim, which we know he loves to do.
Florida schools won’t have guns, despite new bill: The governor signed a bill Wednesday that would allow teacher volunteers to have guns in school. It was a reaction to the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school last year, which is the last thing those students were asking for. But a new report from The Guardian found that no school districts in Florida plan to move forward with this new program. They all have the ability to arm teachers, but none plan to, at least not yet. Let’s see how that shakes out a year from now.
It’s too hot: Far too hot, I need to go jump in a body of water. But at least I can start drinking cold coffee.
It will be another warm one today-with record breaking highs likely this afternoon. Expect highs in the mid 70s- upper 80s across much of the region. #WAwx pic.twitter.com/As6pHvot6A

The global helium shortage is hitting Party City hard: It’s really deflated their profits. I’m sorry I had to. They plan to close 45 of their 870 locations in part because it’s gotten so expensive to fill up latex balloons for kids birthday parties. The days of sucking in helium and talking all funny are numbered.
Hollywood is canceling Georgia after new abortion law: As Nathalie wrote in Slog PM, Georgia’s latest abortion laws are awful and some of the most restrictive in the country. This appears to have angered the Hollywood elites, leading three major production companies to cut ties with the state entirely. They’ve stated that Georgia is not “a viable shooting location” until this law gets overturned. This “heartbeat law” would essentially make it illegal for a woman to terminate a pregnancy after a heartbeat is detected, which in many cases can be before a woman even knows she’s pregnant. What the fuck sense does that make?
Now listen here you $#!%: Today is the last day of our Capitol Hill Block Party lineup week and if the last few days haven’t convinced you to go maybe this will. Tribe Called Red is a trio of Native American DJs who use a mix of thumping dub production and traditional powwow samples to create music as you’ve never heard before. I once saw them yell at a festival crowd about wearing headdresses and you could see all the white people in headdresses slowly reach up to take theirs off. It was ART!
The best Seattle entertainment options this weekend include: Seattle Beer Week, Savage Love Live, and plenty of Mother’s Day events.
