Wake up on the wrong side of the bed today? Do you have an uncontrollable urge to stand up to “The Man”, whoever the hell he is? Well do I have an offer for you!
There are twoโcount them TWOโrallies to quench your unbridled Seattleite rage this afternoon. The catch? They’re at the same time.
Option 1: Today at 3:30 p.m., SAFE (Standing Against Eviction & Foreclosure) is holding a rally in front of Seattle City Hall (600 4th Ave) demanding that no taxpayer money be used to support banks in eviction disputes. We’ve written about SAFE before. As SAFE member Jen Wallis said, “My home is in foreclosure. That my own tax dollars might be used to help a fraud-ridden bank throw me out of my own home, is criminal. Every month 250 Seattle families lose their homes to the banks. We didn’t elect our city officials to help Wall Street throw us out of our homes.”
Option 2: Also at 3:30 p.m., socialist, activist, and city council candidate Kshama Sawant is rallying with teachers today at at Franklin High School (3013 S. Mount Baker Blvd), in response to a union contract proposal that would increase class size and make the elementary school day longer. “It is outrageous that the school district would propose increasing class sizes when teachers are clearly overworked and overcrowded classes have proven to inhibit student learning,” said Sawant. “The obvious solution is to tax millionaires and corporations to fund education.”
