Gotta love good old Bob.
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed suit Wednesday against the Trump administration for roughly the 700th time. The occasion for this latest suit is Trump’s reallocation of federal money designated for the Bangor submarine base in Kitsap County to build his goddamn, no good, completely unnecessary, and frankly embarrassing border wall. You remember the one, right? The one what will be both an ecological disaster and will steal land from private citizens on the U.S. border? The one Mexico was going to pay for? That border wall.
Earlier this year, Trump, unable to convince Congress to fund his border wall because we don’t need it, declared a national emergency, which, incidentally, is exactly what I do when I can’t convince daddy to increase my allowance, too. Congress, in a rare bipartisan effort, voted to overturn this emergency declaration, but Trump got out his Sharpie and vetoed it.
This non-emergency declaration allowed Trump to take $3.6 billion in funding from military construction projects and divert it to his little border wall. One of the 127 military construction projects impacted was just across the water in Kitsap County, where Trump took nearly $90 million in funding for a much-needed new pier at Bangor.
AG Ferguson is not having it.
โPresident Trumpโs misuse of his presidential emergency powers to accomplish an ideological political goal is an egregious abuse of power that should concern all Americans, regardless of how you feel about Donald Trump or immigration,โ Ferguson said in a statement. โOur nationโs founders enshrined our system of checks and balances in our Constitution. President Trumpโs actions threaten to undermine that system. We will not allow that to happen.โ
Yeah!! Take that Drumpf!!
Will this have any impact? Depends on how the suit goes, but I’m actually kind of glad to see Trump screwing over the military. American vets voted 2 to 1 for Trump in 2016. This isn’t a huge surprise: Sure, the closest President Bone Spurs’ have gotten to military experience was once wearing a camo hat, but GOP candidates can generally count on veteran support during elections (active duty members are more politically mixed). Stealing from the military to satisfy his ego is is just another example of Trump giving less of a fuck about the troops, and the country, than himselfโand the more obvious he makes this, the better off his opponent will be next November. Cadet Trump: Keep it up.
