Real Americans were watching football yesterday afternoon.

2

Treating people the way republicans do while also supposedly believing in god and jesus is the craziest shit in the world to me.

3

trump was sunsetting in a packed arena, and no one thought that was weird, or even a little sad?

Republicans are not only horrible people, they have hopelessly low standards for what qualifies as a leader.

4

Charlie Kirk was Presbyterian, and they're not (as with all protestants) canonized. There's a joke that Presbyterians begin their prayers with "To whom it may concern..."

@2: It's crazy to think human condition and religion are parallel.

5

@4 "Charlie Kirk was Presbyterian, and they're not (as with all protestants) canonized."

Ok instead of "canonized" how about yesterday "the Right glazed Charlie Kirk" (as the kids say)

6

@4 It shouldn't be THAT crazy to think that the people who supposedly follow the teaching of jesus christ probably shouldn't take small children to an island and fuck them or brag about grabbing women by the pussy or make fun of handcapped people on national tv. I don't know if you know much about jesus but... whispers he wouldn't have liked any of that stuff very much.

7

@6: I wish I could think of a profound reply.

8

@6

Harrell's plan to fund CARE teams with sales tax, regressive though it is, has a big advantage over mayoral hopeful Wilson's plan to fund a similar expansion in the CARE team: the revenue stream actually exists, and it is within his legal authority to tap it.

Wilson's plans to fund such programs all rely on funding sources that don't, at present, exist.

10

Three things that really stood out to me about the Kirk memorial-cum-MAGA rally: (1) the overwhelming whiteness of the crowd (even compared to most Trump-related events); (2) the remarkably high level of militant Christian content, often expressed in very specific theological terms (making it clear that any Jew, Muslim or agnostic who thinks they have a safe place in MAGA-world is dangerously deluded); and (3) the cowed subservience of the ABC News anchors who provided absolutely no context or insight into Kirk's actual politics (neither did any of the speakers I heard -- anyone tuning in who was unfamiliar with Kirk learned next to nothing about him except that he was "conservative" and "beloved"). ABC further discredited itself by repeatedly referring to Pete Hegseth as the "Secretary of War" both verbally and in screen captions, with no qualifiers or even acknowledgment that said title is unofficial and contested. No one should trust ABC News about anything ever again, at least under its current ownership.

11

@4. Who cares? Trump is also a Presbyterian (in name only). I was baptized Prebyterian, but nothing I learned in church excuses or enables the batshit ideology these charlatans peddle to whitewash fascism and submission to a material agenda in the name of Jesus. They did not and do not practice what he preached. Theirs is a gospel of hate thy neighbor and treat others how you don't want to be treated. They are the ultimate wolves in sheep's clothing.

12

Matthew 5:43

"But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

13

I'm okay with the sales tax to add funding for CARE and for 911 improvements.

Skeptical about the drug treatment funding as it will likely go to some unaccountable non-profit without any metric for success.

Totally opposed to the existence of LEAD, as it's just a way of allowing criminals to avoid consequences.

14

10: I like your insights, except for the "overwhelming whiteness" part which is, admittedly, kinda racist. It is Arizona after all. I saw a lot of latinos however.

15

"and they do increase the risk of harm to students of color"

Maybe "students of color" should stop committing such a hugely disproportionate amount of the everyday violence in and around schools.

16

@10 - "the overwhelming whiteness of the crowd "

Seattle-style "progressive" performative White Guilt virtue-signaling is cringe, and causes stupidity.

17

@15. Can you go one day without consuming your own racist pig vomit you low class scumbag trash?

18

@17 - You are naive if you don't recognize the fact of reality that "students of color" commit the most everyday violence in Seattle Public Schools. Typical naive Seattle White Guilt virtue-signaling "progressive" (and if you aren't White then you have my sincere condolences).

19

@7: To admit there is a 'human condition', one must let go of tribalism. Many humans simply cannot.

20

@6 Trump never mocked the guy's disability (a totally fake story based on a still image of Trump flailing his arms, there's zero evidence he ever "fucked children on an island" (or anywhere else, as he never visited Little Saint James). He definitely said the pussy grabbing thing though, so I suppose 1 out of 3 ain't bad...

21

nekrasova dear, you shouldn't let yourself get played.

take it away, CNN

https://youtu.be/PX9reO3QnUA?si=wCWeO0abuAvuKsSy

22

@21 Yep, a transparently false story, as I said. The reporter's disability is the hand held still up against his chest. Trump flails his arms and speaks in the exact same manner when he's making fun of generals, Ted Cruz, etc. Feel free to look up a compilation of it yourself on youtube. Don't let yourself get played by CNN again!

23

@20 You're dumb.

24

@18. Why do you have so much white guilt?

25

@17 Come on, CDizzle, it's a perfectly valid question!

Why doesn't everyone who isn't white just stop experiencing the socioeconomic factors that correlate more strongly with violent crime than race, and the racism that penalizes them both coming and going for those factors?

26

@22 "You gotta see this guy." shakes his hands like a disabled person

When he said he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and get away with it apparently nekasova was exactly who he was talking about. We could have video of him fucking a literal child and you'd be like "Don't worry. he does that to everyone!"

27

There are definitely a few people on here whose moms apparently ate WAY too much Tylenol when they were pregnant, eh?

28

Also, Welcome Back Jimmy Kimmel, eh? I wonder what is monologue tomorrow night will be like? Might have to actually watch his show for once.

29

Real Northwesterners were listening to the Mariners sweep the Astros yesterday!
Go Mariners!

30

Serena Joy K. will definitely be a regular on Fox News. She'll probably have her own show within 6 months. She's the one profiting the most out of her husband's death.

31

Raising a regressive tax for a worthy project is much better than not. Look at Scandinavia. They have very regressive taxes. The VAT tax is about 25% for each country. So fucking what? They also have a very good government which leads to less crime, less suffering and just a better life overall. By all means keep pushing for income taxes and an increase in the capital gains taxes (at the state level). But at the local level there is nothing wrong at all with increasing the sales tax (assuming we spend the money wisely).

32

Nekrasova dear, it’s one thing to be be a troll, but you’re just not good at it. Have you thought about night school? Maybe you could be a TV repairman or something.

33

Getting baptized as a Christian nationalist:

https://youtu.be/KdftbYqA_VQ

34

@31 “But at the local level there is nothing wrong at all with increasing the sales tax (assuming we spend the money wisely).”

And therin lies the rub. There is ample evidence our officials have little oversight or accountability for tax dollars and why should they when voters continually give them a blank check and overlook the continued waste.

FWIW this will be a double whammy because the county has already voted to raise the sales tax .01% for their own public safety “projects”.

https://mynorthwest.com/local/king-county-safety-tax/4112799

35

@26 Moves and acts nothing like the guy's disability, flailing his arms in a manner he does when he's doing a "you gotta hear what this guy said" multiple times before this. It has absolutely no connection to the guy's actual disability, unless you freeze frame it at a certain point, which is what the deliberately deceptive news story you fell for did. It's similar to the fake Charlie Kirk "black women" quote you fell for - selectively removed content to change the meaning. I think what the evidence is more likely to suggest is that you would believe Trump actually had shot someone on 5th Avenue and would need me to gently explain what really occurred.

@23 "You're dumb?" Are you 6? You fell for fake stories and you're taking it out on me with a child's insults?

36

@32 And how much more pleasant it would be to be a troll, instead of simply doing my best to get Slog readers to look at news stories in an objective and nonbiased manner and seek out primary sources. It's certainly a thankless task, for which my only reward is to be castigated and besieged and beleagured and, some would say, trolled, in response. All I can do is lay out the truth and hope it lodges in the subconscious.

@27 The study linking Tylenol to harms to the fetus is fatally flawed, but I assume I'll get no pushback and needs for further explanation on that one at least, given the source...

37

Jesus christ, it’s 2025 and trumpers are still working overtime engineering new lies about shit from 10 years ago like everyone hasn’t seen the clip a million times or there aren’t countless more examples showing his complete lack of character. Give it a rest, dumdum.

38

36 with any luck by 2035 you’ll have a clever rejoinder when people are making fun of trump for the saying tylenol causes autism

39

What's wild is that ivermectin cures autism. Many are saying this.

40

nekrasova @20 @22 @35 @36, fantastic job setting the record straight on what Donald Trump or Charlie Kirk may or may not have communicated in the past. If you're not interested in the trades at this point in your life, you should really launch your own fact-checking website--y'know kinda like snopes.com but providing much-needed representation for an alternate factual reality.

Speaking of snopes.com: "Charlie Kirk once said prominent Black women didn't have 'brain processing power' to be taken seriously":
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/charlie-kirk-black-women/

41

@36 Okay, maybe you’re just delusional. (That’s a big boy word!)

42

@40: Snope lies.

Watch the embedded video, Kirk actually says at 20 seconds in:

"You do not have brain processing power to be taken seriously. You have to go steal a white person's slot."

Not "Black women do not ..." but "You do not ..."

The woke mob takes liberties with the truth. Again.

43

@42,, The”you” is the 4 black women he mentions by name, dumbass. The full quote is all over the place - we’ve all heard it and so have you. People are paraphrasing him when they say “black women” and they are completely accurate in terms of the content of the clip and the intent behind his saying it. You genuinely suck at this.

44

Well then who was the "you" that he was referring to, Coolidge dear? The "woke mob" wants to know.

And even if your quote is accurate, you don't find that disturbing?

45

@9: "Wilson's plans to fund such programs all rely on funding sources that don't, at present, exist."

And that will prove one great silver lining, should she win. Either she will take Harrell's route (using regressive revenue), or she won't be able to do it at all. If she follows Harrell's lead, the Stranger will either snap an immediate volte-face and praise her for it, or begin the long process leading to slagging her as hard as they now do Harrell. If she can't do it, they'll blame whomever's not "progressive" enough on the Council.

However it shakes out, it will be fun to watch. (From my nice, safe distance. YMMV.)

46

@37 "I've seen the clip over and over! I don't have to think about it, or look at anything else! It's already been explained to me in a way I agree with!" Also, I wouldn't be bringing up the issue from "10 years ago" if it didn't keep getting reposted in here first and require my correction (tbass keeps calling the guy "handicapped", perhaps missing the change to the preferred nomenclature of "disabled" when he was playing that online bug game for the past decade, as he indignantly boasted to me. It's similar to calling an Asian person "Oriental". Quite hurtful). You're also wrong about me being a Trumper. And "dumdum"? Seriously? The second you prove someone wrong in here, out comes the toddler speak...

@40 The specific quote tbass fell for and reposted was, as pointed out in @42, fabricated. But people would always rather go to Confirm My Biases And Tell Me Stuff I Agree With Dot Com rather than check the primary source themselves.

47

@43 That is not a paraphrase. If you were to say, for example "Vivek Ramaswamy and Kash Patel do not have the brain power to be taken seriously" and I say that Barth said "Indian men do not have the brain power to be taken seriously" I have so substantially altered the content as to change the meaning and calling it a "quote" is nothing short of a lie. It can't even be claimed it was an original paraphrase, as it was widely (falsely) shared in exactly that form as a "quote" and described as such. I saw it too, but the difference is not being completely captured by an ideological bubble I was able to recognize it as a little "too good to be true", and look up what he actually said. But these are the knots people will tie themselves in to not admit they fell for a sensationalized story.

48

46, They were paraphrasing him, dipshit.

And yes I’ve seen the clip of trump mocking the disabled reporter many times but why are you spinning your wheels over something from 10 years ago when trump is out there saying dumb shit right now people will need your help to understand? You’ve got your work cut out for you.

49

nekrasova @20 @22 @35 @36 @46 @47, I must say I'm impressed. It takes an extraordinary amount of--as Charlie Kirk would call it--brain processing power to be able to discern all those trees for lack of the forest.

50

@43: Quotes have to be literally accurate, else they're not quotes.

@44: As I just said, it has to be accurate. Do I find it disturbing? Yeah. Charlie Kirk wasn't perfect. We can address his failings without extrapolating his words into more explicit barbs.

51

46 if i said that in isolation that would be an unfair paraphrsing but if i also said they took their jobs from white people because of affirmative action you would be completely correct to call it racist because it would be regardless pf how many indian men i mentioned in the full quote

52

@48 Do you need me to explain what the words "paraphrase" and "quote" mean, because you aren't using them correctly. You just retreat to the elementary school insults instead again. Call me a meany head next.

I also think it's significant that we have to say, well, it's Trump's "character", it's Kirk's "intent", it's @49 "the trees" and not "the forest"- the grudgingly admitting, in the end, "Okay, you've proved I was wrong and they didn't REALLY say it - but they were probably THINKING it!"

53

@50, Quotes need to be accurate but we’re talking about paraphrasing right now. I know it’s a struggle for you but try to keep up.

54

@51 "Okay, maybe you proved me wrong and he didn't say that - but what if he was thinking something racist?"

55

52 no man really we’re hearing these people with our own ears and don’t need any help with that but good luck to you with your little project it’s going great

56

@45 it will definitely be the last option. Even if Nelson loses her race, the council will still be moderate when compared to Wilson. I keep highlighting the fact that she will also inherit a 100 million plus budget deficit so raising taxes further to fund ambitious programs is going to be difficult. So look forward to numerous editorials from the stranger complaining about the fact, we are not taxing the rich enough and how the council is a bunch of corporate.lackeys. It should also make the 2027 council elections a real moment of truth for Seattle.

57

@55 Yes, my project of accurately relaying quotes and news stories to people who misunderstood them is going successfully and even excellently, and my interlocutors are reduced to baby insults, shifting the goalpost, etc. Anyone looking at it from the outside will despair at how it falls upon deaf ears, but it's for those very silent readers looking at which commenters have the superior record of diligent truth and accuracy that the project is all for - and you can count yourself a contributor in your own way, as well...

58

@55 Here's another useful thing you can come away with: when you're reading a news story, try asking yourself "what actually happened here? What did these people actually do, and what did they actually say? Am I repeating a false story?", rather than "I already know these people are Bad, so any negative thing I heard about them is true, and if someone attempts to correct me it probably just means they love those Bad People, and it doesn't really matter what's true because those people are on the other side".

59

you don’t even understand what’s racist about the affirmative action quote despite harping on it for days on end now but you seem quite pleased with yourself and that’s all that matters

59

53: No, my response was in a reply to Catalina, not in "paraphrasing" thread. I know it’s a struggle for you but try to clam down.

60

59 no hon, you were replying to me too, but that’s ok, you’ve had a long day

61

@48: Aren't there any exact quotes of Charlie's to prove your narrative without paraphrasing?

62

Canonized don’t mean shit. No one’s talking about making him a saint, so canonizing him in what?? American history? There isn’t a thing that does that. The bill, which likely won’t pass the senate, also doesn’t do anything but say publicly “political violence bad, Charlie was a patriot”. It doesn’t name schools after him or build monuments, it’s just dumb attempt at symbolism that no one will remember in a few years.

63

@61, Sure there are tons of them but we’re all just typing into a little box on our phones and the full quotes are all over the place if you care enough to hear them. You can look them up tomorrow, after a good night’s rest.

64

All you white guilt Seattle libtards missed the point entirely, Charlie Kirk didn't say ALL Black women lack brain power, just the first and only one on the Supreme Court (and a few others). He's only selectively racist not completely. Thanks for clarifying nekro!

65

Cognitive dissonance is a bitch eh nekra?

Saar, how bout that 100k H1-B bhaisaab?

66

@61,

Yes. Exact, unedited quote. "...Sheila Jackson Lee and Ketanji Brown Jackson were affirmative-action picks, we would have been called racist. But now they're comin' out and they're saying it for us. They're comin' out and they're saying, "I'm only here because of affirmative action. Yeah, we know. You do not have the brain processing power to otherwise be taken really seriously. You had to go steal a white person's slot to go be taken somewhat seriously."

Unedited quotation from a racist piece of shit. Go on and keep defending him.

Please do so while keeping in mind he also said, and this is also a direct quote, "MLK was awful. OK? He's not a good person."

Do you also think Martin Luther King Jr was awful?

67

@66: Yes, that's the exact quote. The only thing I'm defending is accuracy. Cherry picking the more unpleasant things Charlie Kirk said doesn't negate the goodness and spiritual revival he brought to millions as a mortal, and very imperfect, man.

68

@67 wank wank wank wank wank wank

69

@67 yes he made millions feel good by saying the racist and otherwise fucked up things they were afraid to thereby validating their antisocial feelings. What a hero

70

@69: Then why then were his college appearances of "prove me wrong" one-on-one debates so popular?
@68: Here's a towel.

71

Coolie @67...
Please elucidate all the "goodness and spiritual revival" that Kirk did. With direct quotes.

I would not want to have to accuse you of "cherry picking".

72

@70 because he made millions feel good by saying the racist and otherwise fucked up things they were afraid to thereby validating their antisocial feelings. And what he said made other people mad and want to argue with him. What about that is confusing?

73

@72: And what, if anything, is wrong with college kids having debates over those things - even in the way you describe them? Free speech is messy.

Nobody has the right not to be offended.

74

@24 - I have no White Guilt. All the pathetic naive "progressive" White Guilt I had got stabbed out of me a long time ago.

Slog will ignore this in Slog AM today:

6 women arraigned on charges related to Alvarado ICE attack
September 22, 2025

ALVARADO, Texas - Six women charged for their roles in the shooting of an Alvarado police officer faced a federal judge on Monday.

The officer was responding to a vandalism call at the ICE detention center when federal prosecutors said he was ambushed. Thankfully, he survived.

What's new:
On Monday, six women were arraigned on charges connected to the ambush-style shooting of an Alvardo police officer at the Prairieland Detention Center on July 4.

They include Savanna Batten, Joy Gibson, Maricela Rueda, Elizabeth Soto, Lynette Sharp, and Rebecca Morgan.

The backstory:
In all, at least 16 people have been charged in the case.

According to the federal complaint, several of the defendants were dressed in black, military-style clothing.

The complaint states that the protestors began shooting fireworks at the detention center. Two people broke off from the main group and began to spray graffiti on vehicles and a guard structure.

Officials believe it was all a ploy to draw ICE detention officers out of the building. Instead, the correctional officers called 911 to report the vandalism.

When the Alvarado police officer arrived, a defendant positioned in the woods shot the officer in the neck. Another assailant across the street fired 20 to 30 rounds at unarmed correctional officers.

Investigators found AR-style rifles at the scene, two-way radios, and a total of 12 sets of body armor after searching the scene and the defendants' cars.

The complaint said the shooters ran away, but law enforcement officers stopped them.

One attacker had cellphones inside a type of bag that blocks cellphone signals.

The complaint called the attack a conspiracy.

The six defendants’ supporters strongly dispute the conspiracy claim.

They argue the women were there to attend what they thought would be a peaceful protest.

They did not want to make any official statements after Monday’s arraignment but questioned why the hearings were taking place 11 weeks after the arrests.

The court-appointed attorney for the women also did not want to make any statements yet on what happened.

The attorney said the time was not unusual, given that both state and federal agencies are involved.

What's next:
Additional defendants will be arraigned on Tuesday.

80

@77: Ok, you got me on that angle.

81

@70. Keep it, you're the one putting lipstick on a pig.

82

@76,

That quote @ 66 is him explicitly saying that those black women don't have the brain processing power to be taken seriously. As well as that MLK was an "awful" person for dedicating his life to achieving racial equality. My goodness, you're an asshole.

83

82: No, he said "you", criticizing three women who happen to be black. He didn't say "black women".

Kirk never said MLK was awful.

84

I correct myself, Kirk did say that about MLK Jr.

85

Y'all are just bitter that you can't stop exposing yourselves as the party of hate and division.

Looking at you Catalina Vel-miserable life.

Kisses

86

@85 most of your other sock puppets have nothing but nice things to say about catalina

87

Spankey dear, there's no need to be so tense and brusque. We're like a family here on slog. Even people like you with your twenty comments in the last four years. There's certainly no reason to be so shy - I think you'll find us quite nurturing if you let go and let God - but you might want to think about turning that frown upside-down.

Always remember you are BRAVER than you believe, STRONGER than you seem, SMARTER than you think & LOVED more than you know.

Except for that whole Republican thing. Republicans are horrible people.

88

@87 You only fool the low IQ, such as yourself. But hey, at least it's a little entertaining.
