Donald J. Trump, the Republican candidate running for the highest executive office in the country, has been criticizing the parents of a slain Muslim soldier for nearly a week and will not back down. Trump's attacks on Khizr and Ghazala Khan have resulted in public reprimands from both Democrats and Republicans alike. Even some of Trump's closest allies, like New Jersey governor Chris Christie, have said that Trump's behavior towards the Khans is "inappropriate."
But not the Republican running for governor of Washington State. On Tuesday, KIRO 7 reporter Essex Porter asked Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Bryant whether he could truly stay silent—as he has done over the last several months—about the latest Trump controversy.
Bill Bryant twisted his response into something that did not answer the question (which Porter called him on—yay, Essex!), and then offered a smug smile. Is Bryant proud of himself for this? It's getting weird. Start watching at 1:20.
