Here’s a tidbit from an interview with Russell Wilson and Ciara’s wedding planner: The couple had reportedly planned to have their July nuptials in North Carolina, but “called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws.”

Wedding planner Mindy Weiss told TheKnot.com that she planned three weddings for Wilson and Ciara. The second choice of location was Paris, but the date coincided with Fashion Week, so they finally opted for Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, England.

The reception included a surprise performance from Earth, Wind & Fire, and the flowers were by McQueens of London, if you must know.

The Seahawks quarterback hasn’t spoken publicly about the so-called “bathroom laws”, which bar transgender people from using the restroom that corresponds to their gender identity. While a quote from his wedding planner not the same as a public statement from the highly-religious Wilson, it’s safe to assume that Weiss had the go-head to talk about the reasoning behind the decision to change the location of the wedding. What’s unclear is whether the couple wanted to protest the laws or just avoid a bad PR situation.

We have reached out to the Seahawks for comment and will update this post.
