A new area code is coming to Western Washington, and it doesn’t really have a nice ring to it.

Starting tomorrow, local calls made within Western Washington will require 10-digit dialing. This is because beginning in August, a new “overlay” area code—564—will be attached to some new phone numbers in the region as current numbers become exhausted.

The North American Numbering Plan Administrator projects parts of the Western Washington region will actually run out of phone numbers by 2018, according to a report from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission.

There are currently four area codes in Western Washington: 360, 206, 253 and 425. Of those, the 360 territory will be the first to attach the 564 area code to new numbers later next month.

Current phone numbers will remain the same and, according to the report, Western Washington has about 10 more years until the 206 area code is completely exhausted.
