Welp, they did it.

As I noted earlier today, state lawmakers responded to a judge's ruling that members of the legislature adhere to the state Public Records Act like everyone else by fast-tracking legislation that will exempt them. On Wednesday, they proposed a bill that will allow our elected officials to decline to disclose their past calendars, emails, or text messages upon request from the media or members of the public. Two days later—without public testimoney—both the state House and Senate approved the measure this afternoon, with only 7 senators and 14 representatives voting no. The measure now heads to Gov. Inslee's desk, but while the Governor has spoken out against it, with over two-thirds approval, there is no chance of a veto.

Pat yourselves on the back, lawmakers! You successfully circumvented the media, public will, and the courts. TGIF.
