
Ringo Starr strolled into Buckingham Palace this morning and kneeled before Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge. When he stood up, he was Sir Richard Starkey, a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. (Sir) Paul McCartney received the same honor 21 years ago. (David Bowie reportedly turned it down twice, Keith Richards just once.)
According to the BBC report, the former drummer for the Beatles was well chuffed.
“It means a lot actually,” he told the reporter. “It means recognition for the things we’ve done. I was really pleased to accept this.”
