Less than a week after the man suspected of mailing package bombs in Austin, Texas, blew himself up, the FBI announced Tuesday that an Everett man has been arrested on suspicion of sending package bombs to the CIA as well as multiple military and government facilities in the Washington, D.C. area. Those bombs did not blow up.
According to an FBI statement, an investigation determined that the packages were sent by one individual from the Seattle area. That individual, 43-year-old Thanh Cong Phan, was taken into custody by the Seattle branch of the FBI and the Snohomish County Sheriffโs Office at his residence in Everett on Monday.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in federal court in Seattle this afternoon.
