Crybaby Studios owner Leigh Stone is launching Crybaby Musician's Grant, a quarterly award that allows free 24-hour access to the Capitol Hill rehearsal/recording space for three months. The first cycle runs from June 1 to August 31. Applicants have until May 1 to apply, which you can do here. The CMG board members who will decide the winner(s) are Stone, KEXP DJ Sharlese Metcalf, musician Cody Burns (Two White Opals, ex-Voyager One), and Edward Wolcher (who recently wrote a tribute to Ursula K. Le Guin for The Stranger).

In CMG's mission statement, Stone writes, "With the price of real estate in Seattle going through the roof there is little extra cash for artists to rent a music studio. The goal of this fund is to support the local music scene and to promote the importance of access to creative space for every demographic. Crybaby is thrilled to offer this grant so talented musicians can focus on their art without having to worry about making the rent." Altruism lives.
