What happens when our president fires the attorney general and installs a puppet at the head of the Department of Justice? Thousands of people turn out to Cal Anderson Park at the top of Capitol Hill to protest. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal showed up. So did Gov. Jay Inslee.
I went out The Stranger‘s front door to find out what made all of these people ditch the bar and hit the protest line on a Thursday night.
“I am extremely concerned about the state of our democracy and that an independent investigation is under attack.” –Jeannie
“We are not going to stand for the shenanigans that are going on in our government. It’s a democracy not an autocracy and we just had a change in the House so I am sure he is going to grab all of the straws that he can to keep control. But the vote said no, we are going to check and balance you.” -Julie
“It’s hard, especially having a kid. We thought he was going to get to see the first woman president and instead we have had this and it’s kind of like a living hell. We’re here to have our voices heard and to make sure he doesn’t think that people don’t care.” –Rebecca
“I had signed up for this months and months ago. If there was something catastrophic that happened to threaten the Mueller investigation we were going to be warned to turn out in the streets and raise a ruckus about it, that we weren’t going to stand for it.” –Charles Anstett
