Seattle gives first responders a break: Mayor Jenny Durkan and Fire Chief Harold Scoggins announced the launch of Health One, a team of first responders who will handle non-emergency calls, on Tuesday. It'll be made up of two firefighters and a social worker. The need for Health One, or a solution like it, is clear; as homelessness grows in the city, more people on the street need help, usually in non-emergency capacities. That burden falls on police and firefighters who have become inundated with this kind of work. So, Health One. It's a pilot program launching later this year.

Man who stabbed woman 20 times turned himself in: Marcus Oden, 62, turned himself in for a crime he was accused of nine days ago: stabbing a woman 20 times after she turned him down for sex. Oden allegedly stabbed the 50-year-old woman, who is the maternal grandmother of his 5-year-old child, according to charging papers, in a SeaTac motel. She survived despite multiple stab wounds, 11 of which were to her back, 2 that were to her chest. Part of why she survived could be attributed to the bystander in the next motel room who rushed to the woman and covered her in towels to staunch the bleeding. Olden is being held in jail currently.

Baby giraffe gets his own custom shoes: The Woodland Park Zoo's brand new baby giraffe has custom shoes. But they're for therapy. His rear legs weren't in alignment. The zoo's exhibits team crafted therapeutic shoes to help the baby walk. He's got fancy shoes but he still doesn't have a name!

A man was hit by a truck in West Seattle: There are reports that a 52-year-old man in a wheelchair was hit by a truck Tuesday. He is in serious condition. At the scene, there was a wheelchair stuck under the truck.

San Francisco bans cashless stores: San Francisco's Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday that stores must accept cash; only accepting credit cards is discriminatory against low-income people and whoever else (like the youths!) who might not have cards. Similarly, Amazon just opened its first New York Amazon Go store. That one is also the only store that will accept cash. That goes against the whole point of Amazon Go, the whole feels-like-theft-take-your-shit-and-go perk that is supposed to demolish lines and maybe change retail forever.

The Glossier pop-up is upon us: The popularized-by-Instagram make-up brand is coming to Capitol Hill. We don't know when! But it's gotta be soon, right?? Soon, I will find out if Cloud Paint will rid me of all my anxieties. I think it will.

Americans with diabetes caravan up to Canada: These Minnesotans with Type 1 diabetes are in search of affordable insulin. They can get that in Canada, but not the U.S. So, they've crossed the border. The group even has a hashtag: #CaravanToCanada. Data shows that Americans paid 92 percent more for insulin than people in other countries.

Happy first birthday to Be Best: Ah, Melania Trump's broad and vague initiative that centered on children when it comes to social media, well-being, and opioid abuse is already a year old. This is a really long article about the future of Be Best, something that really didn't make much of a splash in its first year. Basically, Melania Trump has "more plans" for Be Best and will "push forward with her platform."

A school shooting in Colorado: STEM School in Highlands Ranch, about 20 miles south of Denver, was the site of a school shooting today. Currently, two people are in custody. Eight students have been hospitalized, many are in critical condition. The school is a charter school that spans kindergarten to 12th grade. The shots started at the middle school, reportedly.

No present-day Trump tax returns but...: The New York Times obtained tax figures for the years 1985 to 1994. What do they show? Trump was in the red. His hotels, casinos, and whatever-else-he-owned reported losses upwards of $1 billion. Yet, his book, The Art of the Deal, hit stands in 1987. What kind of art of what kind of deal gets you near-total business collapse?

An excerpt:

This man flooded an Australian hotel: He turned on the fire hydrants at Experience Bella Hotel in May 2018. The hotel was soon flooded by 400,000 liters of water. The man responsible was found trying to mop up the flood. Soon after firefighters evacuated him, they found him lying on the stairs with the mop as water poured over him. He said he had to turn on the hydrants because "they're out of jail and they're after me." The damages are now totaling somewhere around $3 million Australian dollars. The hearings are currently underway and will continue Wednesday.
