Slog PM tonight is brought to you by Juicy Bits, a beer from Weldwerks brewing: It's a New England-style IPA and boy, is it juicy. I guess that's in the name. Lester Black, Stranger staffer and beer lover, has this to say: "It's an orange creamsicle of a beer! Soft, sweet, they call it an IPA but it's not really bitter at all, and it has a bit of minty spiciness on the edges."

BREAKING: There was a shooting in the Central District at 23rd Avenue and E Union. One person is reported dead. Multiple people have been reported shot. Suspects reportedly fled the scene. The Seattle Times and Capitol Hill Seattle Blog have more.

Washington's largest psychiatric hospital plagued by problems: Western State Hospital has had quite the week. One therapist was attacked and had part of her thumb bitten off by a patient. Patients caused a sewage flood when they flushed non-flushable items down a toilet. Then, there was a chickenpox outbreak that spread to staff who were reportedly sent home with no pay. On top of all of this, the hospital is short-staffed. Gov. Inslee just signed a package of bills that will beef up support for our mental health system, but it could be years until those go into effect.

Man who allegedly decapitated girlfriend after 'speaking with God' found competent for trial: A court-ordered evaluation found that 33-year-old Timothy Paul Hernandez is able to stand trial for the 2018 murder of his girlfriend. He is currently being held in the Skagit County jail on $1 million bail.

Damaged whale watching boat heads back to Canada: The boat, a 60-foot catamaran called 4 Ever Wild, got maybe a bit too wild yesterday when it hit a rock, took on water, and started sinking. The 43 passengers were evacuated safely. Salvage crews bailed out the water, fixed the broken pontoons, and towed the now-repaired boat back to Victoria, B.C.

New survey shows student poverty and hunger across UW campuses: An estimated 5,000 students across the University of Washington's three campuses reported being housing insecure—that means they've spent nights in cars, tents, and on friend's couches. More students, an estimated 10,000, are going with less food or no food at all to save on cost. The causes? Tuition, yes, but mostly high rents.

Happy summery weekend:

Goodbye for good, personal exemptions: Sorry idiot parents, you can no longer claim personal or philosophical exemptions for your children when it comes to getting the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine. Gov. Jay Inslee signed the bill banning exemptions into law at Vancouver City Hall, the epicenter of this year's measles outbreak. There were over 70 cases. Medical and religious exemptions still count.

Three SeaTac fliers got caught with handguns in 24 hours: One of the guns was loaded! Each of the three passengers was arrested and TSA will issue civil penalties which can range from $2,000 to $13,333 (a weirdly specific number?). There have been 19 guns seized by SeaTac TSA in 2019 alone. Stop taking guns to airports, the rules haven't changed! I'm headed to the airport in like, an hour, and I'm leaving my gun at home! (Disclaimer: I do not own a gun.)

New York scam artist sentenced to four to 12 years in prison: Anna Sorokin who went by the pseudonym Anna Delvey while she scammed the Manhattan upper class will be seeing the inside of a jail cell for some time. Sorokin, a Russian immigrant, became infamous for convincing people she was a German heiress. That involved staying in boutique hotels, eating at fancy restaurants, wearing designer clothes, and paying for none of it. Sorokin told the New York Times that she wasn't sorry and that she'd do it all again.

Ben Shapiro storms out of BBC interview: Shapiro, the conservative commentator and bag of fleshy hot air, got heated when he was asked direct questions by BBC journalist Andrew Neil. Here's the end of it when Shapiro walks out:

The whole interview is really worth watching. I think we should only have British people interview our conservative blowhards. Like this clip of an Alex Jones interview:

A disappointing open for Uber on the New York Stock Exchange: The rideshare app closed at $42 a share, down from its initial public offering price of $45 per share. It was a lackluster opening, but the company is still valued at $82.4 billion.

The House is on the hunt for Trump's financial records: The House Ways and Means Committee have subpoenaed Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Charles Rettig after Mnuchin refused to turn over Trump's six years of financial history.

Ohio woman arrested for breaking and entering: She broke into a home, pet the family's dog, did the dishes and left. She was arrested for burglary.
