You're looking at TWO Emmy-nominated actors... interesting. COURTESY OF HBO/HELEN SLOANE
Today, nominees for the 71st Annual Emmy Awards were announced. It seems, like, really early (the ceremony is on Sept. 22), but what else do we have to do?

HBO leads the pack, snagging 137 nominations, mostly because nearly every actor in its crowning drama Game of Thrones got a shout out. The show received in total 32 nominations, the most for any show in a single year in the history of the Primetime Emmys. Although, in my professional opinion, the last season sucked, the nostalgia and need to formally recognize the ending of a cultural phenomenon is bigger than me. Just don't give an award to Jon Snow, please!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix came in second with 117 noms which is kind of wild as HBO has had 25 years to build its prestige drama empire and the streaming service got its first Emmy in 2013. But if I'm doing my math right, without Game of Thrones, Netflix would be the top "network," beating HBO for the second time. It's a new day! NBC came in third with 58, and then Amazon with 47 Emmy nominations. Looks like we'll see Bezos's gleaming head at the ceremony.

I also wanted to note some other shows that got a lot of nominations: Prime Video's Fleabag got 11 nominations after receiving none for its stellar first season. They will put some respect on showrunner and leading actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge's name. Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also got 20 nominations—people really do love it. HBO's Chernobyl walked away with 19, HBO's Barry and FX's Fosse/Verdon got 17, and Netflix's intense Ava Duvernay-helmed When They See Us received 16.

It's also a delight to see Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer from BBC America's Killing Eve both receive acting nominations, but my hot take is that Comer deserves it more! Also, Pose! With the Outstanding Drama series nomination! I have my fingers crossed, but I know how these things go.

Here are some of the main categories—I left off a lot of reality TV nominations, but just know that both RuPaul and RuPaul's Drag Race were nominated. I also included network because it's interesting to see the relatively small pool of networks that the American public tunes in to. See the full list here.
