Sawant is the bravest council member. She is not intimidated by those in power. Too bad these other council members cannot stand up and be counted as well as she does. People are tired of politicians who do not fight for the people on the bottom and let the monied powerful call the shots. Of course it is finally up to the majority of the people to stand up and fight back.

2

Sawant will have my vote in the General. I like that she scares the Elites and the Power Brokers.

3

@1, @2: Bullies yell a lot and scare people. Leaders create effective policies.

What do you think of “Save The Showbox”? How many milllions of our taxpayer dollars will a rich guy now get because of Sawant’s ‘leadership’?

4

Sawant represents her party and not her district; also, she is no friend of labor. I think the only reason she was elected in the first place was as a novelty.

6

To answer the question the title almost poses, they want her gone, and they want her gone now. They want her forgotten by the time they stand for re-election. They do not want voters reminded of how many times they carried her water. The sooner they can be rid of her, the better.

Hi,

Let’s decode exactly what it is that the corporate Democratic Party’s “Butt-hurt Bureaucrats’ Brigade”, and in this instance councilmembers Gonzalez and Mosqueda, are actually complaining about:

“How dare Socialist Kshama Sawant criticize me while I grovel before SPOG / collude with billionaire Bezos’s $350,000 mayoral acquisition Durkan to repeal the “Amazon” Hours Tax / water down pro-tenant Rent Control legislation!

And she makes me look bad with my stratospheric salary compared to the workers I say I represent, whereas Kshama, horror of horrors, lives on the average Seattle worker’s salary plus fully-auditable expenses and gives all the rest to the workers’ fightback!

Most unpardonable sin of all, here am I happily welded-at-the-hip to my lords-and-masters the Democrat Party establishment, and cruel Kshama Sawant and savage Socialist Alternative strive might-and-main to create a mass workers’ party independent of the Republican-Democrat 2-headed snake!”

:)

Despite all the above milquetoasts’ mewlings, Kshama Sawant has won more trade union endorsements than all her strikebreaking-scab opponents put together!
80,000 trade unionists already!

We’re Socialist Alternative.
We fight for all our class, all the 99 Per Cent, all our sisters and brothers.
Against all our exploiters, oppressors, blood-drinkers.

Please vote for Kshama, donate to Kshama, come march with Kshama!
And most importantly, consider joining us!
Together, we have a world to win!

C'mon Lester. Not even you can be so naive. Sawant considers both of them "corporate stooges" and will vilify them any chance she gets. They can't work with her (probably can't stand her, but who blames them), so they're hoping to pack the Council with ideological fellows. In addition to deWolf, they've endorsed Morales in D2. They want to ensure they can ram their agenda through the council, no matter what the public thinks. Lucky for them they don't have to pay to defend when their experiments are challenged in Court.

9

@7: "Together, we have a world to win!"

Let's see...Global population: 7,700,000,000. "Socialist Alternative" and sister organizations membership: likely less than 25,000 world-wide.

Y'all have got a whole lot more "winning" to do.

10

Who gives a rat's ass who these two jokers endorse? They'll be gone in 2 years themselves! #7Up ##TimesUp #NoIncumbentLeftBehind

11

Mosqueda isn't pro labor, she's pro her pretend labor council and growing the power it has for promoting establishment politics as usual.

12

@5 Kshama has nothing to do with DSA or the Democrats. Try again.

13

Kshama Sawant: intelligent and able, but overrated and oversold, a bi-product of Seattle's intelligentsia's pathetic insecurity when confronted with a committed socialist. Well, let the sanctimonious hipsters, professors, and activists hate on anything conservative and, or pro-capitalist. "The people" vary greatly in their views, but many this past year are rediscovering they are not as far left as they desperately wanted to believe--and, increasingly, they don't care if our city's dogmatic scolds attack them. And not liking Sawant does not mean one loves Amazon, Trump, the Republican Party, or greed. It means one does not like Sawant's dogmatism, tunnel vision, lack of transparency, hypocrisy, opportunism, encouragement of heckling, and sickening, grotesque self-importance and attention-seeking. I hope she loses. If she wins, she wins, and the city will go on. But I hope she loses. She's had her chance, and she didn't do a good enough job. Some will never acknowledge this, but most Seattle voters can see it clearly. She might squeak through to another term in office--a term she doesn't deserve. Give someone new a chance.

14

It’s Heidi Groover! Don’t forget the “r”!

15

@7: So, how many millions of Seattle’s taxpayer dollars will go to a rich guy because of CM Sawant’s “Save The Showbox” antics — a ‘plan’ which CM González and CM Mosqueda fully supported?

CM Sawant’s most lasting legacy may be an epic act of socialism — FOR THE RICH!

Please do let us know what you’re allowed to think about that.

16

Sawant is like Tim Eyman. Grab onto any popular movement (minimum wage, car tabs, the Showbox) and milk them for all they are worth. The problem is, they are incompetent. Tim Eyman is either a genius con artist who intentionally writes bad legislation over and over to enrich himself by dipping into signature gathering funds or he's incompetent. Sawant on the other hand spends more time on the bigger Socialist picture than with her constituents. She has alienated so many people with her rhetoric (example calling Police murderers less than 24 hours after a shooting with no investigation or evidence available to her) that she may have hurt the Socialist cause in Seattle for a long time. She says stuff like Seattle should take over taxi service... workers should seize the Boeing plants and build buses instead of drones. Even Bernie Sanders knows to keep those kinds of thoughts to himself in order to actually get things done.

17

In three or four years, we'll think of Sawant supporters the same way we think of Trump supporters, and most people will lie and say they opposed her.

I'll still be here to make sure Seattle remembers that for six godforsaken years, The Stranger voluntarily transformed into a propaganda rag for Kshama Sawant and Socialist Alternative, sliming all her opponents and lying about her agenda to keep the nightmare alive.

18

Ooh #3 & #15 “tonsure”, you mewling mad monk,

Did you end up being beatified by billionaire bishop Bezos?

:)

So you think socialist Kshama Sawant is a “bully” for fighting for an Employee Hours Tax on mega-corporations such as Amazon in order to pay for affordable housing construction?
Whereas you think Bezos the centibillionaire centipede is NOT a bully, despite his directing the Seattle city council’s corporate catspaw councilmembers to illegally collude with his $350,000 mayoral asset Durkan to repeal the above tax?

It’s high time you started to think with your head — not with your other extremity!

:)

Just because of one judge’s verdict, disregarding 100,000 petitioners, regarding the preservation of the “Showbox” as a music venue, you give up and grovel?

And you howl “How much of our tax dollars will we lose?”?

Hopefully none, but if necessary all.

Just like every issue in the class struggle, if we build a strong-enough mass movement we’ll get to preserve the “Showbox” as a music venue.

Nonsense #4 “Eilabun”,

Kshama proudly represents BOTH her party Socialist Alternative, AND her sisters and brothers the 99 Per Cent in District 3.

It’s called dual accountability.

Why the surprise?
Is walking while chewing gum too much for you?

20

Woo hoo #9 “svejk”,

You say: “Y’all have got a whole lot more winning to do”.

Indeed.

To win any serious battle in the class war — the Multi-Millions versus the Multimillionaires — we need money.

So put your money where your mouth is, and donate to us.

Or are you a skinflint as well as a sycophant?

21

Aww #17 “AceCH”,

How in the world would we — Kshama Sawant and Socialist Alternative — be causing a non-capitalist like you “nightmares”?

Or do you think you’re a capitalist?

Do you own a bank?

Are paranoids coming to get you?

@4 Close about Ma Anand Sawant originally being elected as a Putney Swope novelty. People were desperate to get the nonentity Richard Conlin off the Council - he had lapsed into an irresponsible and ineffective feel-good cipher. But she went off the deep end into narcissistic egocentricity. Does not play well with others and is an ineffective councilperson. And discredits the progressive and socialist movements as badly as if she were a deliberate agent provocateur. An asshole to boot.

23

Nonsense, #22 “rockyboy” with rocks in your head!

:)

Kshama Sawant uses the socialist conquest — of her Seattle city council position — as a megaphone for building mass movements:
• Forcing the 8 corporate council members to concede a $15-per-hour minimum-wage throughout Seattle — we want to extend that victory nationwide!

• Defeating the police and prison-industry’s attempt to build a new police headquarters-bunker and youth jail.

• Organizing the mass fightback for affordable housing and renters’ rights.
