Can everyone stop spreading the stupid seattleism that "oh that's not the 'original starbucks', it was on western...".

It is the original Starbucks COFFEE SHOP. The one on Western was a roastery that sold wholesale beans. It wasn't even the same thing.

2

Does it really matter? It's just branding.

Dems donā€™t have a deep Ohio bench for Portmanā€™s seat. The obvious play for the seat is Gym Jordan. He might be a bit too right even for Ohio. Ryan could be a choice for the Dems but I don't know he has that kind of support. I donā€™t know if Kasich would be up for it but if itā€™s going to stay red itā€™s a more sane option than Jordan. I think itā€™s too early to call it a swing state but at this point it looks better than Georgia did two years out.

Time to stick a fork in Der Gropenfuhrer's fat ugly butt, and be done with it.

It's truly sad about what has happened at Starbuck's. Those responsible for the damage should be held fully accountable.

So here's a no-doubt stupid question that I actually couldn't find an answer to after several googled attempts. Could Shitler be subpoenaed to testify at the hearing? Would it matter that he's no longer an elected and just a private citizen?

I mean I guess he could just refuse to do so, even if that might not be the best look. Doubt if he'd even be required to formally invoke the 5th, which would surely look worse. He's obviously immune to impact from anything bad look's invoke regardless, but it'd seem like it couldn't hurt for us to force him to refuse.

And if he didn't refuse?!! What a shitshow that'd be!!! Given his combative nature and a perhaps diagnosable cognitive inability to answer questions asked of him (as opposed to those he chooses to answer) that entire ordeal would be an absolute freaking circus. Make the OJ Simpson trial look like traffic court by comparison, and they'd probably want to have Judge Judy preside just to set appropriate precedents.

All that said, it'd be a ratings blockbuster and (though I probably shouldn't admit this publicly) I'd probably put in a request for the day(s) off from work just to watch.

@blobby -- trumpf's cold cold 'heart' would never stand the Strain of having to Tell The Truth nor would anyone but a Fool put him on the stand -- hell, the Perjury charges alone likely'd be more than enough to lock him away for the rest of his sad life.

perhaps his 'lawyer' 'Tooty Fruity' Rudy'll talk him into it soon.

Yā€™know Chase, itā€™s perfectly possible, despite your tone, that the guy Wheeler sprayed and the guy who smashed the Starbucks windows got/are getting their just desserts. Iā€™m tired of utter assholishness on the left getting a pass from progressives. The ends, no matter how laudable, donā€™t always justify the means.

@9,

I'm generally a fan of your quasi-neutral and objective takes on matters, but unless Chase's post was edited, I'm not seeing your case this time. Here's Chase's entire summary of events... "Last night, following a dinner with soon-to-be co-worker and former Portland Mayor Sam Adams, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler pepper-sprayed a member of the public who he says confronted him and was shooting video. Portland Mercury's Alex Zielinski has more!"

I think that's all pretty factually accurate and don't get where Chase's tone factors in. I gather he's not likely a fan of Wheeler (I actually think the guy's probably done as much as could be expected, given the circumstances and all) but still don't see your case being made. Here's audio of the encounter, FWIW.

ā€¦"The riots came after the Dutch government imposed a 4 p.m. curfew over the weekendā€¦"

This isn't even an accurate summary of the BBC article you linked to, which states correctly that the Netherlands curfew is from 9PM ā€“ 4:30AM. And it's not a "curfew over the weekend", but a curfew that went into effect on Saturday, and is set to continue into February.

Really, "It Takes a Village"? The old saying we use to describe raising a child?
We finally admitted the tiny house villages are simply costly adult nurseries.

13

"It Takes a Village"? The old saying we use to describe raising a child?"

no, no,420 -- it was co-opted by repubs to attack Hillary and "KKKommunism" meaning Anything that is Good for a Society is BAD for Society: meaning the Rich already GOT theirs and you would too if you weren't so Stupid. And Lazy. and ... bootstrappyless. or: Don't take a piece of MY Pie.

First it was supposed to be a coronavirus explosion from the summer, then the protests, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then Winter, and now an untraced variant. Ever hear of the boy who cried wolf?

15

@10, yeah, youā€™re probably right. Taken by itself, Chaseā€™s description doesnā€™t convey an overt opinion. But the reporting here has been so consistently pro-demonstrator/protestor/rioter (except at the Capitol) no matter what kind of atrocious behavior is involved that when I read ā€œa member of the public who he says confronted him and was shooting video,ā€ I immediately interpret that as ā€œa critic of Portlandā€™s heavy-handed police response to protests, for which Wheeler is responsible.ā€

16

@14: Inapplicable fable.
