At a fundraiser Wednesday night in New York City, the new line was on display, with the president deploying the phrase “Change is” on a dozen occasions.
“Change is the first bill I signed into law โ a law that says you get an equal day’s work โ somebody who puts in an equal day’s work should get equal day’s pay.”
“Change is the decision we made to rescue the auto company from collapse, even when some politicians were saying we should let Detroit go bankrupt.”
“Change is the decision we made to stop waiting for Congress to do something about our addiction to oil and finally raise fuel-efficiency standards for the first time in 30 years.”
“Change is health care reform that we passed after a century of trying.”
And so on.
This isn’t going to work in the general election, but as President Obama works to shore up his base, the “change is” construction is a catchy way to remind Democrats that he has accomplished some pretty impressive things in his first term. This is way better than “win the future,” which died an ignoble death when Charlie Sheen’s “winning” went viral.

You are right about the isn’t going to work part.
“Ch-ch-ch-ch-Change is!”
#2 FTW
But the world is more like:

Having an incumbent make “Change” his reelection strategy doesn’t seem like a terribly smart strategy decision.
Agree completely with @4. Change is having the moving van pull up to the White House on 1/20/13. Not sure he’d like that much.
Who is the candidate running for the Democrat Socialist Pary anyway?
I think it’s a very smart slogan. It answers directly the charges from the right that “change” either didn’t happen or was for the worse.
Change is ordering the assassination of US citizens without charge or trial.
Change is never having to say you’re sorry.
Change is no financial bubble bursting during the term.
@10: But you’re comparing two Bush terms with only one Obama term.
Whatever the theme… I’m voting Obama 2012. No change on that.
I still like:
Keep Hope Alive.
Keep Change Alive?
mOre change
@11: so?
what bubble has expanded in this stagnant economy? gold?
@2 – You must be in my head. STOP BEING IN MY HEAD. ๐
@4 & 5 – Actually, “Change is..” is a natural follow-up to the slogan of his first successful campaign, which was, in case you’ve forgotten, “Hope and Change”.
@7 FTW – a rarely-awarded unregistered win!!
What about my favorite one? Where they changed Osama bin Laden’s head from one that didn’t have a big hole blown through it to one that had just such a hole. I guess you could argue that making a hole is not really making anything, it’s more just creating negative space. But the point is that it’s change. I like the new Osama bin Laden way better than the old one.
Change is ordering the assassination of US citizens without charge or trial.
That “U.S. Citizen” was an Al Qaeda traitor to this nation that wished death upon everyone you know and love. Side with the traitor, I’ll side with Obama and my country while celebrating one less terrorist in the world.
