(MUSIC) Melodies, vocals, and emotions blow through Castanets’ gothic folk blues like tumbleweeds. Creaking doors, cracking hearts, and chilling confessionals add to an oppressively desolate tone that harmonica notes and acoustic instruments barely lift. Frontman Raymond Raposa is in good company, releasing records on Sufjan Stevens’s label and playing shows with Six Organs of Admittance, and yet that lovely lonely vibe persists.
