TS: "[The] pot-dependent reporters on the Stranger Election Control Board"
TS: "Starting at the national level, polls give Republicans a decent shot at controlling every branch of government"
Also TS: 'we endorse throwing out two House incumbents, which would make it even harder for Democrats to win back the House, thus making it easier for Republicans to control every branch of government.'
Checks out. I can't wait for the Hannah Performance Collective's latest missive about "Genocide Joe" later this week. Great work, all.
Bob Ferguson has made Washington less affordable and more dangerous. His soft-on-crime policies have resulted in skyrocketing assaults and hate crimes, making the LGBTQ+ community vulnerable and unsafe. Ferguson overturned voter-approved $30 car tabs and has been a supporter of every tax that Governor Inslee introduced--most of which are highly regressive.
We need change, not more Inslee.
Washington need an "Obama" type leader...that person is Mark Mullet (D)
@3: Suarez is a fucking vigilante who is supported by all the right-wing scum in the area. Who in their right mind would vote for a candidate Jason Rantz and Brandi Kruse like? This election is the biggest no-brainer in the entire cycle.
Ferguson will be the hardest vote for me (and no, I won’t be voting Bird or Mr Cop) - I will always side eye a politician who claims to support public schools yet sends his kids to private schools (especially given the quality of SPS this smacks of elitism).
Happy to see a fairly pragmatic slate of candidates (obvious exceptions exist but most of those folks will never win the general).
Tiggs: "Washington’s current Secretary of State voted against legislation that would have automatically restored voting rights to felons after they are released from confinement, even if they still owe legal financial obligations. The Secretary of State's role includes accounting for and notifying these individuals of their eligibility to vote. While I understand the concerns that may have driven the current Secretary of State’s decision, I believe in the importance of reintegrating individuals back into society after they have served their sentences. Restoring voting rights is a key part of this reintegration process. Voting is a fundamental right, and facilitating this process helps strengthen our democracy. I Marquez Tiggs, as Secretary of State, would fully support this law and ensure that individuals are properly informed of their voting rights as they are reinstated. By doing so, I aim to foster a more inclusive and equitable society, helping individuals rebuild their lives and contributing to our community.
Our current Secretary of State, Steve Hobbs, opposes ranked choice voting. Although this perspective is rooted in concerns about the complexity and implementation of such a system, I see ranked choice voting as a means to make our electoral process more representative and fairer. I would have supported legislation like HB2250 and believe that ranked choice voting could be beneficial for statewide races. This system encourages candidates to seek broader support, potentially reducing negative campaigning and fostering more inclusive elections. I did vote for Seattle’s ranked choice voting measure in 2022 and stand by my belief that it can lead to a more engaged and satisfied electorate. As Secretary of State, I would prioritize educating voters and officials about the benefits and mechanics of ranked choice voting to ensure a smooth transition and successful implementation.
The National Popular Vote Compact is another area where our current Secretary of State and I differ. Steve Hobbs voted against this initiative, likely due to concerns about state sovereignty and the logistics of implementing such a compact. However, I believe that the compact is a step toward ensuring that every vote in the presidential election is equally important. States like Washington should support this compact to reflect the true will of the American people. It is essential for promoting fairness and equity in our national elections, and I would advocate for its adoption. By supporting this compact, we can ensure that the voices of all Washingtonians are heard and valued in the presidential election."
@3 although I hate the nonsense "Trump of the left" label it actually fits Suarez better than any candidate I can recall. She is not respected by anyone else in her field, and her main (only?) talent is self promotion. There's absolutely no reason to think she'd be an effective legislator. Scott may or may not be a "real Democrat" but his opponent is a real clown.
DePoe is my guy for lands commissioner. His expertise and honesty are beyond question. He represents millennia of commitment to our lands. Upthegrove is a dilettante and Van De Weghe is terrible. I would prefer Herrera Beutler to Van De Weghe.
Pourong cold water on Schrier in a swing district dependent on turnout in a cycle where the House is so close and potentially the only available check at all on a Trump second term is also incredibly irresponsible given the stakes this year. WA-8 is by no means a district where the Democrat will win regardless of the nominee, every vote potentially depressed for her matters by sh*tting on her just to prop up a no chance candidate is a vote lost for the House as a whole.
@10: The Stranger’s endorsement logic for both WA-8 and WA-9 says that a well-financed, multi-term incumbent simply must win in the primary election, and so voters should go for ideological purity instead. This is exactly the same logic the Stranger used to endorse NTK over Pete Holmes in the most recent Seattle City Attorney’s race, and the Stranger also openly spoke using this endorsement to defeat the Republican, Ann Davison, in the primary election.
The resultant two-plus years of City Attorney Davison have apparently taught the Stranger absolutely nothing about its supposed electoral cleverness.
This is a weird take on Cantwell. She chairs the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and is principally involved in the work of that committee. Why is there an expectation she will fix the state's housing crisis? I want her focused on addressing emerging issues with AI, rail transport of hazardous materials, and air travel safety. You know, the stuff she's been doing for decades as "a US senator with 24 years in the tank."
Dave Larson is the same guy who, in 2007, as chair of the FW school board, implemented a moratorium on showing what was arguably the most well known film on environmentalism of our time -- An Inconvenient Truth -- doing the bidding of local teabagger Frosty "The No Man" Hardison (who thankfully GTFOed off to Texas years ago).
So yeah. Dave Larson will never get my vote for anything.
Why is it that "party insiders" and "corporate media pundits" are bound and determined to kick Biden to the curb? To treat him like last week's dozen eggs?
Biden is the only guy, the only guy in the whole wide world, who ever beat Trump in an election.
I generally just vote for the non-Democrat with the highest grammar ability in the voter's pamphlet. The journey of an independent to return us to a purple state is a lonely one, but we soldier on.
@16 Because the reality is that in 2016, any decent Democrat other than the woman Republicans have been teaching people to hate for 2 decades could have won.
@16 Since Trump has only run in two previous elections, being the "only guy" to defeat him isn't saying much. But the Biden who accomplished that feat no longer exists, and we should all be thankful he realized it himself while there was still time to change course (albeit just barely). I for one am feeling a tremendous sense of relief and optimism today.
You're endorsing somebody who was the president of the Council on American Islamic Relations? Insane. They are the Muslim version of AIPAC. And given that ADL is shunned by progressives who have no issue allowing this Islamist group into the fold, it gives credence to the idea that progressives are anti-Semitic.
I'm glad Shaun Scott was forgiven for that tweet where he attempted to condemn antisemitism but went into a ignorant and racist trope about "racist Jews exploiting the Black community" and "Zionism is trash". I'm sure if somebody called BLM trash and talked about anti-Semitic Blacks who are exploiting the Jewish community they would be endorsed by the stranger too.

So glad the Bob Ferguson is running for governor. He's the most awesomeness AG ever and he will be a terrific Governor. Definitely NOT crazy about voting for a Lieutenant Gov (Hick) if he''s in bed with landlords. This is a huge issue. So, why no discussion about the other democrat on the ballot, Davide Griffin? I'm taking your advice because I don't want to hand the seat over to the other party, but I wish you had consoled me a little more.
It's pretty wild to see all the Bob Ferguson haters tagging on little code items like, "soft on crime" and bad for "LGBTQ+". when Bob is non of those things. Something new readers might not know is that Bob Ferguson has won every case against Trump. Not exactly soft on anything. I assure you, he is no enemy of LGBTQ either. The real give away that commentators are probably Eyman trolls is the mention of the $30 car tab they conned us into (well, not me, but most of us), doing away with one of the most sensible, progressive taxes I myself have ever encountered, closing fire stations, loosing ferry budgets, and taking hits out on other public works across the state. Bob Ferguson is a great guy and Tim Eymen and pals will not be happy when he takes the Governorship. And that's the truth of it.
I suspect every endorcement here is also endorced by MLK Labor. That is the problem. The stranger is in bed with Labor Unions and their door mats. If you want change, vote against them all.
We have 2 x 12 Human Resources in the City of Seattle. That is the problem with these endorcements, more of the same.
The Stranger endorsements are a joke. They have contributed to a lot of stupid and dysfunctional leadership in Seattle over the years. Do your homework rather than just voting reflexively for the most progressive candidate. In Seattle politics the left leaning candidates are Marxists that can do real harm to the quality of life as they tend to use homeless people as props for the revolution. They have no interest in solving problems.
The race for Lands Commissioner is a case study in why we need Ranked Choice Voting. There are too many Dems in the race, with polls showing them splitting the vote into single digits So, because we don't have RCV, we may be picking between two "stumps-for-schools" Republicans come November. A couple of years ago, the lack of RCV resulted in Seattle having to choose between a Republican and an anti-cop Abolitionist for City Attorney. Given that choice, I believe most people would have stuck with Pete Holmes. And once again, disorganized Democrats might be handing the reigns of DNR over to a Republican all too happy to continue clear-cutting our state forests for just 1 percent of the school construction budget.

"We'll keep an eye on Cantwell.."
Yeah, I'm sure Maria Cantwell is shaking in her boots knowing you're keeping an eye on her, Hannah. You're not as important as you think you are.

What, no Presidential endorsement?
@11 The presidential primary in WA is a separate election, which this year took place in March.

2: Agreed. Not Ferguson. I haven't decided who but I'm even looking at Reichert.
